Bench Rest Scopes

I am looking for a scope for my RAW HM1000x LRT. Who can recommend a scope that is variable power between 40 to 60 max power and SFP and $1500.00 or less. It won't have to focus less than 50 yards. I have three on my list. I won' t say what two of the are so I can see if others like them, but one is a Sightmark Latitude bench rest 10 to 40 that has all the features I want for $700.00, but I am not sure if I would get a quality scope in that power for such a low price. Prince Albert, out?

I have tried the Delta, Golden Eagle, Sightron SIII and SV. I think that the Sightron SVED, Delta, and Golden Eagle were very close, but the SVED may not fit in your price range depending on the options you choose. I think they are all very good options, mostly separated by their reticles. The Delta and Sightron have more adjustment range, so that could be a determining factor for you. I have heard the Trijicon and Delta are basically the same scope, but have not been able to confirm. So the Trijicon could be an option to try as well.

I thought the Delta reticle was too fine for me, but that is a personal choice. I loved it optically, and wanted to like the reticle. I wish the Golden Eagle had more reticle options, but I really like it at a lower price point. The Sightron SVED is very nice, and I like the parallax adjustment the most, but it is the most expensive too.

For price and quality, the Golden Eagle is one of my favorites, if you like the reticle.

Probably a Filipino Burris XTR2 8-40x50 for under $1200.00 if a 50 yard minimum parallax is fine.

I just got the Japan Vortex Golden Eagle 15-60x52 and already have plenty of JAPAN Sightron SIIIs 8-40x and majority are the 10-50x60s and they go bad past 30-35x and progressively gets worse the higher magnification you go. I have gone through Swarovsky Zeiss S&B and Kahles and still own some but are out of your stated budget.

I suggest you try the Burris first and buy from a dealer that are friendly with taking back returns and for what you want so you get first hand experience rather than listening to people who may not know what good glass really is.

The Golden Eagle,Sightron SIII field target and Trijicon were the three I have been debating and now the Delta.

I briefly mentioned the SIII, but because of your price possibilities, I didn’t say much about it. I like it ok, because of its low price and overall good quality. If you are willing to spend more, those other scopes are DEFINITLEY better optically. I always suggest people consider what they want out of a reticle first, so I would say to review those before deciding.

That being said, you may want to try them all at some point. There have been scopes I thought I would love until I tried them. If you are sure, don’t be afraid to buy used at a good discount, so you can afford to try another if you don’t like it.

I bought the Vortex Golden Eagle 15-60x52 based on MANY peoples advice and am rather disappointed with its clarity past 35x especially for the price I paid. BUT! in all fairness it's only a $1200.00 scope and not a $4500 S&B or Kahles or Swarovsky or Zeiss. It is clearer than the Sightron SIIIs I just expected it to be a lot clearer that's all.

It's just not perfect past 35x but you can still see your target cranked up to 60x and it's better than a cheap generic spotting scope.

Too bad neither of my Bushnell Elite 20-60x or 15-45x spotters didn't have a crosshair. I don't use them because I have old Kahles and Valdada Optholyths that are far superior.

You should buy the Burris XTRII 8-40x50 and the Vortex Golden Eagle 15-60x52 and plan on keeping just one after doing a side by side based on YOUR EYES. Theres the new JAPAN Tract Toric 4.5-30x56 illuminated 25 yard minimum focus that's my next scope I'm buying that has Schott HT glass and it's ED too a $2000 and under ALL OTHER SCOPE KILLER! At Just under $1700. Maybe cheaper if you find an online discount code that appears to perhaps be a few if you look hard enough or ask them.

Only cheap alternative I can say is a $229 Chinese Aim Sports Alpha6 4.5-27x50 SFP Illuminated 10 yard focus from BudK (5 left in stock as of yesterday) because I like it more than my $599 (on sale at SWFA) JAPAN ($1300+ retail and everybody else sells this one for $819-$999 right now except SWFA $599) BUSHNELL TAC 4.5-30x50 SFP Mildot 25yd min focus that's clear only till 24x vs Alpha6 clear till 26x also has a really huge sight picture in comparison. I also pitted them to my $3200.00+ March-F 4-24x52 which of course was the clearest and 14x more expensive but not 14x clearer than the Alpha6 it was shocking to feel stupid about a cheap generic no name scope could be ok on this comparison until I actually did it. My expectations in clarity are higher than most no matter the price so this probably doesnt make any sense at all but it is what it is.

You can try the Vector Optics I have them all too even the 35mm bought one of every single one of them years ago in addition to the 30mm ones. They are pretty DAMN clear too but I give the edge to the Aim Sports Alpha6 which looks to be made in the same factory on China. Personally MY EYES are calm and relaxed the most and can shoot all day looking through this one that's why. Others may fatigue my eyes forcing a break in shooting.

I chose the Sightron Slll 10-50 LRTD for my bench rest gun. I also went with the 0.125 target dot reticle. I find it advantageous to adjust the the power to allow the dot to fit neatly in the X ring. As an additional incentive the price is well below $1,500.

Of all the scopes I've ever owned, my Sightron SIII 10-50 is by far my best scope for BR shooting. I have a fine cross hair for my .177 cal for 25M and a MOA-2 on my Impact for 100 yd BR. Don't listen to anything else.

For me all these scopes are starting to darken and suffer by 40x, even decent 65mm spotters are doing that, so what I'm getting at is 50-60x doesn't do me any good at all. I dial back my March FX 5-40x56 to 35x because the image is still bright and I can see any detail I need to.

YO, I found the same thing about my March 3-24, glass was good but not fitting for a scope costing that much. The glass and eyebox is better in the 5-40. I'm thinking real hard about selling my S&B 5-25 and getting the 5-42 High master which Ilya/DLO has purported "excellent" center image quality!!!

OP, I'd save some money and go for a fixed 35x Leupold. I liked the 45x version but it was a tad dark on dim days. These are very clear scopes and I think it's because they are fixed power.

I have looked at a fixed power Sightron. I found a review that Joe Wayne did on the Falcon x50. All looked great until it got dark after 40,but for a grand I could live with it. I might put an Unertl 20x Ultra Varmit on it that I have. I also have 10x that came off a M40 in 68 and somehow made it's way back to the states! Seriously,I was just looking at a Nightforce. I also looked to see what the .22 powder burners are shooting. It looks like Sightron and Delta in variable power.

I’ve been using a Vortex Golden Eagle 15-60x52 for 3 months now and love it. I normally shoot it at 40x for BR. Very clear at that mag and the reticle is very good, one of the best (ECR-1). I’ve compared it side by side with the Sightron S3 at the same magnification and the Vortex has better clarity and contrast. While probably not technically a “tier one” scope, it’s close...
