Bench rest target in ft position

What is the FT position?
Standing?
Kneeling?
Sitting?
Butt pad?
Bucket?
I'm assuming that when he/they said THE FT position, he/they didn't really mean one field target position in particular. Sounds like they are just using 25-meter benchrest paper targets (really tiny bulls-eye and rings), but shooting them from any and all of the field target positions you listed. It makes sense to me now. Since field targets are always steel gongs and hole-in-steel type targets, the shooter doesn't know how far off they were from dead center. Practicing their field target shooting positions on small bench rest paper targets helps them to improve -- or at least shows them how far off they are -- how much room for improvement there is. It's just a guess on my part -- but it makes me sound smart, so I'll hit the Post Reply button now. Cheers.

Ft position is any of the above you asked. Any form you use or equipment while your on the course. Not off of a bench rest and chair. So when I refer to my ft position I’m on a bag and shooting the rifle off of my knee. Just a good way to practice techniques and consistency In my opinion. For me anyways. Also will show me if I improved rather than knocking down a 1” kill zone at 25 yards each shot. Those shots might not do it at 55 yards. If I can keep my shots within the 9 ring I’m happy with that.

I guess I'm a little slow. What is the purpose of having a bullseye target in the middle of a field target? If you are keeping score based on the bullseye target, why not just put the bullseye target out? I'm confused.
It gives the shooter an immediate visual and audible indication of a “hit” when the paddle flips up. Of course you could just station a paper card but field target people like me, seem to love the visual indication and sound that comes from a score in the KZ.
Options, it’s all about options.

I can perhaps answer this for you although I don’t know the OP’s intent:
In Field Target you have
Seated positions - some type of seat
You have forced lanes which include standing and kneeling similar to what is seen in 3 position Olympic disciplines
In the USA we don’t typically shoot FT from a prone position but in Europe they do.
It’s a lot of fun!
If you have access to YouTube search for field target videos and watch a few matches.
Hopefully this information helps you

Exactly - you nailed it!
Another thing is you can also see over distance(s) if you’re shots are trending in a direction say “ down and to the right “ where with a traditional Field Target it’s a hit or a miss.

I think I know something about field target.
Some of the rifles you bought and sold recently were mine.
I think you sold them because they were to large for you!!!

The reason I asked the question was because of the way the OP presented his/her question: “The FT Position” indicating that there was only one FT position as opposed to four.

@Frank in Fairfield
I pretty much know every person I’ve bought and or sold an Airgun to. I keep really good records and your AGN name isn’t one of those people? You may be referring to a custom red Boyd stock marauder I got from Cameron? I bought a blue one too! Yeah definitely too big for me and wsy too long reach of pull as I’m only 5’6”. Fortunately now in the hands of some taller younger shooters.
You're welcome to PM me if I’ve somehow miss placed your information. Thanks.

Excellent.

BTW..When you see the aforementioned fellow, ask him who it was that got him started on his trip to become a world champion field target competitor.
Yep

I was shooting the red Marauder and he just happed to have his .22 Discovery with him.

Many air rifles of various configurations have been used by him over the past few years.

I just shoot my springers now (although I do have a PRod I could not pass on).

My TX’s (3) or the R1, have no drop data. I just focus, aim and shoot.

35-40% (50%) on a good day) but, hell, I am out there.

Stay safe.

Me
Myself
And
I
Moi

I’ve posted this in another thread but I’m on the road for a long while… search redesign field target ?

Basically you set these targets out 6 per lane = 3 per shooter for every lane
Near
Medium
Far distance

Paper cards are pre marked with shooters names /. Distance / lane numbers

A hot line is called when all lanes are set

Shots = one per target, are taken by squad members.

Upon completion of lane, the cold line is called for all and targets are retrieved

New targets are placed as you approach your new lane

Repeat

At end all score cards are gathered and scored as you would with bench rest.

Although all targets have a 2” 1/8” KZ the level of accuracy is determined numerically!

Actually without the time to set up and break down courses and strings and target failures this can move faster than a traditional FT game and a huge benefit is less cost and reduced maintenance
love this idea, i did search and could not find the original idea. How many lanes are you shooting, how is scoring etc...
Always looking for something different

Well now, guess I need to find specific information about this?
@dgeesaman what is the search terms ? Or a link?

Thanks I’m on it
