Benjamin Benjamin Akela .177

hello everyone, this is my first post on here and what would be better to talk about than my first PCP airgun! I just ordered an Akela in .177 from airgun depot (220 bucks off with a free Benjamin hand pump) I have been trying to do some research online while im waiting for it to arrive but I am having some difficulty finding good information. does anyone have any chronograph numbers for the .177? I have seen some people saying they're sending 10.34s at around 1000 fps, is that the norm? also, other than shortening the hammer spring is there any mods anyone would recommend? once I get the gun in the mail and spend some time getting to know the gun I will be posting a ton of content on my YouTube channel as well to help spread any information shared here. thanks guys!

Hi Tyler,

I’ve posted extensively regarding my results with shortening the stock hammer spring length (3.5” in the .177 Akela) on both the GTA (Gateway to Airguns) and AGN forums.

I would suggest shortening the hammer spring to 2.57” with your .177 Akela. I’d like to know if Crosman is still selling these rifles with the 3.5” spring in them - ridiculous and makes them perform very sub optimally.

They are simple guns to work on and are very accurate and consistent once you address the hammer spring.

There is a good video on YouTube on how to adjust and polish up the triggers on the Craftsman Series (Kratos/Cayden/Akela) rifles:

Also, it’s easy to polish up the hammer itself once you are into the trigger sears.

PM me if you have questions.

hey, thank you for all that info, come to think of it, I think I have read most of your posts talking about this. this is great information and I really appreciate you sharing. after seeing these shot charts im thinking the hammer spring mod is going to be first thing on my to do list. my plan as of now is to keep the gun stock long enough to do a YouTube video (haven't seen many of the US spec in .177) and then doing this mod and comparing the 2. in your experience did you see any improvements with the stock hammer spring length by just adjusting the transfer port by chance?

This still has a good bell curve to it as your looking at the first 30 shots? Reason why I ditched the spring shortening idea before the gun was released to the public. I’ll agree it’s better then having all that valve dwell and it’s a quick (kinda fix).
That led me to develop a tune kit that balances the valve out from 3000 to 1800psi for both .177 and .22 Akela,Kratos and Cayden guns.

tune kit? im very interested.

Rich at Airgun Revisions is an airgun engineer for Crosman/Benjamin. He is an expert on their products. I've got his tune kit for my Kratos, and he is right now making a Lothar Walther barrel for it. Just a month or two ago, Rich made new barrels for the Crosman shooting team. His advice on your Akela will be golden (y)

I just got an email from airgun depot saying my akela has been shipped! I was told it would be on backorder until the 13th so im very happy to be getting it early! I currently do not have a functioning chronograph (simple fix for mine im just forgetful) but I do plan on putting a target out at 30 or 35 yards and seeing how many shots I get before I see a meaningful POI shift. im going to be posting a ton of YouTube shorts and full length videos about this gun as soon as I get it in the mail (could be as early as tomorrow) I won't link my YouTube here, only because I don't know if there are any rules against that sort of thing. after thinking about it some more, im going to leave the stock hammer spring in its current configuration, and order a spare spring from corpsman and cut that one, that way I don't have to worry as much about cutting to far or messing up somewhere.

Howdy Tyler. I started with a .177 Akela and went through two more .177s, all with valve problems, until Benjamin shipped me a new .22 version which has been superb. I recommend you shoot your .177 for a couple of months before changing anything in case you need to send it back. Benjamin stands behind their products, so no worries there. The Akela has a "power adjuster" that lets you control the fps of your projectiles. Max power can easily exceed the sound barrier. A good moderator is required such as a Hugget or 0dB. The Akela prefers the heavier pellets and slugs in my experience. Don't shoot the lead-free pellets. Those got stuck in my barrel in the choke part.

The gold standard of youtube videos on the Akela is the sub12 airgunners series, IMO
