Tuning Benjamin Akela Troubleshoot

Just got my Brand New Benjamin Akela .22 pcp, I try using a hand pump and nothing .. it sounds like the air is not staying in .

ive try the same hand pump and tube to my hatsan and it works fine , I’m trying to figure out why it’s not holding air .

what can it be , can’t be the hand pump or the air tube , since it works on my hatsan .

is there a valve on the akela that is probably not tight or lock (like on some pcp to empty the tank) if you want to change it out

hopefully there’s someone who have been through this before can help me out .

update: 3/19/2021 , had to send it back , took almost a week before JBTools from Amazon would refund me , 95% of the emails I’ve sent them fell on Deaf ear , Amazon had to step in every time to get a response from JBTools.

thanks so much , you’ve guys are the best

yeah, cock it and dry fire it a couple of times then just cock it and leave it cocked .... if it still wont seal, try pumping hard then fire it before all the air escapes so the slight pressure will tend to seat the valve seal .. go back and forth if its still hissing trying to get the pressure up incrementally higher until theres enough to seal the valve ..

I hate who ever decided to sent this on totally empty 😡, it’s still not sealing .. never thought getting a air compressor , but maybe I might have to 😩.. my arms are aching and the pump is starting to get HOT ! It wouldn’t be so bad if it would just hold some air . I’ve pump my other hatsan 3-4 times it’s a bit of a work out but not even close to this .😁

@TouYang Is there a set screw near the fill port? If so, check it to see if it’s snugged down. That’s what you’d unscrew to depressurize your reservoir. Mine takes a 3/32 hex head. Shot in the dark, but if your Benjamin Akela is built anything like my Benjamin Bulldog that may be part of the problem. Also in the Bulldog the instruction manual it tells us to cock the gun before filling from 0 psi. First time I tried to fill my Bulldog I didn’t cock it and I could hear air escaping through the barrel, but I was filling from a SCUBA tank. I figure because they’re both Benjamin products, they may operate similarly. Have you referenced or looked for a digital version of your instruction manual?

Hope this helps some.

Typical Crosman problem. Had the same thing with my 1701P and my wildfire. Crosman just does not ship guns with air in them. I am lucky in that I have a compressor, but if all else fails try removing the fill port and cleaning it. My wildfire would not fill and was driving me crazy. I removed the fill port (under advisement from a Crosman tech) and discovered some metal ribbons from the tapping process had gotten in the port and stopped it from opening or closing. Saved me shipping it back to Crosman. My 1701P had a leak on the first fill (leaked from 2900 down to 2500 then stopped) It has never leaked since then. I chalked it up to very cold seals (it was less than 20 degrees when I did the initial fill). You know even 500 psi would stop this from happening!

Update : try using a air compressor from the local paint ball place , it wouldn’t even put air in 🤦🏻‍♂️, I’ve check with the guy and he said it’s able to do 3,000-4,000 .

had other people saying Benjamin have been having the same issues for a while now , might be some Quality control issue.

I’ve try single, double, even triple pellets , no luck.waiting on Amazon and the JBTools (seller) to respond ..

It may be time to contact the manufacturer, Crossman, as well.
