Benjamin Durango

The issue at hand is the speed of sound is right around 1200fps. The pellet will get buffeted by its own sonic boom (crack) and it will get all wobbly in flight. You can't hit dirt with a wobbly pellet.

For .22, the golden velocity is around 850-900 fps.

Break barrel guns can be difficult to shoot well. Set your expectations low and learn as you go. Pellet guns are powerful and potentially dangerous. Use good gun discipline.

Save your money, DO MORE RESEARCH (reading here and on GTA) and buy something better. Those high velocities advertised on many Nitro piston air guns are only obtained by using PBA (a very light alloy) pellets which are VERY light for caliber. It is a marketing tool used to lure in ignorant newbies. *Sometimes* going with a heavier pellet can achieve both accuracy and desired performance, BUT...

See my first sentence in this reply. (smile)

If noise level is not a concern and I doubt this will be louder than most Nitro piston break barrels, you might want to look into a Crosman/Benjamin Maximus or Discovery (if you can find a Discovery). Very accurate and relatively cheap. Since you are considering a break barrel, I am assuming the single shot mode doesn't bother you? You will have to buy a HPA hand pump, but 2000psi is pretty easy and the $50 or less cheap hand pumps work very well. At least they do for me.

Congrats on your new gun, hope you enjoy it. Remember, there might be a bit of a learning curve, just don't get discouraged. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks in the Nation that are willing and able to answer any questions. You've already met a few and there are many more besides. Best of luck with your new Durango.

That should work for me thank you

in your opinion is pcp the best?

That depends on what you want to do with it and the answer will differ with everyone you ask. I wish I could tell you a particular PCP is *best*, but that simply is not possible.

For now, just enjoy your new air rifle and learn how to make it work for you. That will teach you more than I can about what you really need in an air gun. My first air rifle (since I was a kid) was a Crosman Fire/F4. I learned from that gun that I didn't want anything like that again. Other folks will differ on that opinion. (smile)

My pesting PCP right now is a .177 Benjamin Fortitude Gen2. Unfortunately, they raised the price considerably recently, so I can't recommend it even though it works well for me. I got mine for slightly more than half of the current price, delivered. It shoots CPUM 10.5 pellets at ~750fps for ~12+fpe which is actually more power than I need. I have to be careful about pass through and ricochet where I live. Something to be mindful of if you live where a stray pellet may damage your neighbor's property.

Anyway... enjoy your new gun and continue doing your research into air guns in general. Eventually, you will know what you need and buy accordingly.
