Benjamin Fortitude G2 22cal leak becoming an issue

This is my first introduction to the PCP rifles as springers have been my usage, mainly for plinking and targets"

I have replaced springs, seals, pistons, etc. So not unfamiliar to repairs or rebuilds

So this past Dec purchased a 177, 22cal G2 Fortitudes have to say am impressed out of the box performance

By comparison I really am not being judgemental on pros an cons on either caliber for it becomes mere preference

After the first month of use noticed a slight pressure dropage in the 22cal more so than the 177cal, so, contacted Crossman

who's response was a 50# loss in 24 hours was a norm.

Due to this outbreak of covid-19 it's use was was put off until lately where I noticed after a fill of 2500psi a much greater pressure loss ranging 500psi in 48hours

At this point would like to isolate and correct this issue ( reluctant it's return do to this covid-19 affecting businesses )

My question if any owner of these Fortitudes have experienced any excessive pressure leaks and if so are there any key places to test with soapy water ?

Yes, your gun has a leak. The pressure on the gauge should not change outside of slight movement due to temperature change. The Gen 1 Fortitude had a bad problem with leaks. They improved that on G2, but all pcps will eventually leak. The Fortitude can be more difficult to re-seal with the number of O-rings that have to pass over the gauge hole. Here is a recent thread on it: Ftude Leak

The primary area for leaks will be from around the gauge hole, reg weep hole, or fill assy. The slower the leak the harder it is to find. I prefer to take it down to just the air tube and components. I have used foaming hand soap, aersol leak detector, and even full emmersion in warm bathwater. It will need clean down immediatly afterward. Best to have all the O-rings and do it right away. -113, -016, and -009 are the main ones. 70D BunaN will work fine. Silicone oil and grease needed as well.

It is still on warrantee and sounds like you have a spare gun, so consider sending vs fixing.

I like the Fortitude enough to want to keep it, it has a Lot of Pluses for me. I received my Fortitude Gen2, .22cal on 03-31-2020. That is not great to hear that Crosman says that a "#50 loss in 24 hours is Normal". My Fortitude leaks 400psi to 500psi in a three day span, from a 2000psi fill. I have Not had any leaks in my Synrod or Prod, and I have had them for over 4years zero leaks. I dont mind having to work on a gun over time, it is expected, but a new one right out of the box, is Not acceptable to me, unless it is Chinese. I, like you, dont really want to send it back, as a inexperienced skeleton crew may make things worse. I will be ordering some orings, as i'll be needing them anyway to keep my Fortitude shooting, and go in and do it my self. Most all my springers needed some deburring to put in the Vortek spring kits in them my Diana 34, 350, 460 all needed deburring, but my HW77K didnt have any burrs in it at all, better quality.

I took the stock off of my Fortitude and sprayed some soapy water, to help find the leak and found my rifle to be leaking between the air tube and the shroud tube area is where i saw the bubbles at about the location of the stock hold down bolt, but between those two tubes.

I would Like to have seen pictures of the insides of this gun and what the burred areas look like.

Thanks FuzzyGrub for the Link.

In this link: Fortitude Insides you will find pictures of all the components, but not the inside of the tube. Those are Gen 1. I haven't been inside the Gen 2, but the main changes are:

- Lighter and adjustable hammer spring

- Better debrred air tube

- Added weep hole to air tube

- Change in fill assy due to leaks

Gen 2's for the most part should have choked barrels. I have a Gen 2, but it was one that was refurbed from a Gen 1, that is non-choked.

Thanks Guys

Did send Crossman another e-mail have to wait an see what their response will be

Still feel uncomfortable sending it back for the accuracy on this one is outstanding took out a pesky critter at 50yds

Did inquiry bot an O-Ring seal kit which of course at this time was N/A

FuzzyGrub

Noticed you had mentioned a few O-Ring numbers -113, -016 etc are these referenced to 0.00 us scale or mm

Before I attempt to peruse any repair, like to have some o-rings available in which I have quite an assortment including Vinton

Guess question being is there any references as to OD, ID, and thickness I should have before disassembly

Thanks Again on your speedy response

Bill

They are the standard US "dash" labeling. I linked to some MC specs below, but you can probably find these in your local hardware store, but certainly at many places online. These two are on the valve, reg, gauge block, and fill assy. If you have two guns, just get bag of 100. The -009 is used inside the gauge block, but unlikely it is causing the issue. It is also the size used in the barrel of the 22 cal.

-016
