Benjamin Jim Shockey Steel Eagle 495FPS

I was in my local sporting goods store today and I saw a nice looking rifle. It was a Jim Shockey Steel Eagle edition .22 pellet rifle. I noticed on the box it was 495 FPS. Did Benjamin make a reduced power rifle? All the ones I see on the internet are showing 1100 FPS.

It was prolly meant for the canadian market where that is the limit before it is considered a firearm, and you have to go through all the bs to buy one, something not req'd. in the USA (yet).

I know it’s about half of some of my other air rifles but I was thinking it would be a great plinker for steel plates on my home range.

You know it's not really 1100 fps out of the box anyway. I have one and the trigger is terrible. The end of the baffle broke off... it threads on to the barrel and holds the shroud in place. PA had a replacement. Same as the NP Trail. Been a while, but I think it was shooting around 700-800 fps with 14.66 gr. pellets.

I agree about the FPS being overrated by most manufacturers. I do a lot of plinking on 5”- 8” swinging steel plates with my pellet rifles and thought this one may be a good choice. It was a very good price for the rifle. My woods walk range is only about 40 yards at the farthest target. I thought at that distance it would still make a nice ring on my targets.
