Benjamin Marauder Pistol...refurb’d?

Purchased a Benjamin Marauder Pistol...new (supposedly).

Not sure if this is factory but what is this type of grease? Anyone know? Apologies ahead of time if this is common knowledge.

I just got into the PCP world 3 months ago and not I just purchased my second PCP!



its the BLACK gummy looking goop applied to the threads on the fill nipple. 

Is this a normal Application for the Marauders?

The grease, usually clear or translucent white, is likely silicone grease used on o-rings and rubber parts. The black stuff is like a plumbing tape for sealing threads on fittings. Both normal for airguns but looks like someone got a bit sloppy with the grease though.

@biohazardman: ok.gotcha. Thx for clearing the mud. A bit Sloppy was the red flag for me and it’s not smeared so I’ll give a bit of grace.

I’ll be keeping a close eye on the pressure to be sure it’s not leaking...for the amount of grease applied I should be good! Haha.

They should be already tuned very well straight out of the box as they come from Crosman. I would try Crosman Premier Hollowpoints and H&N Field Target Trophies in 5.53mm and 5.54mm specifically.

That looks like the same pips dope used on my Benji pump which I did get brand new.

Received my marauder pistol a couple of weeks ago. had the same thread sealant. no leaks yet that I can find.

Thx gents for the feed back on the sealant. I guess I’m not the only one.

The sealant is noticeable in my PRod don’t mind it tho, wish the company that I purchased it from would have gave me a heads-up.

I purchased the Benji Fortitude a few months ago and there is no sealant on the threads BUT that’s probably why I loose ~100psi overnight and I’m yet to figure exactly where the leak is and the PRod might have just revealed where it might be!

That's Ninja tape, different kind of thread sealing tape than the white or yellow ones you buy from Home Depot.
