Tuning Benjamin Marauder Questions

I am a Noobi to the forum. I have a Benjamin Maurader that I have owned for about 5 years which I use for removing squirrels from my pecan trees. The gun is equipped with a Hawke variable power scope and is .22 cal. Lately, I have noticed it shooting erratically. At 75-100', I will get a five-shot pattern shooting from a rest, with 2 holes almost on top of one another and 3 holes 4-6" randomly out from the center. The closest repair shops over 200 miles away and I would prefer not to intrust the gun to the post office. Can anyone recommend what I can do to get this gun to shoot accurately?

Thanks

Randy

Thanks for the responses. I generally just use the gun for killing squirrels. I do have a bench rest and target set at about 100 feet. The rest is pretty secure. I don't have any specialized equipment such as a chronograph. I have tried about a dozen different types of pellets. All performed about the same. I am currently using JSB match Diabolo 1,030g.

I have a good bit of firearm experience, but not a lot of airgun experience. So I am probably guilty of nooby errors. The barrel probably does need cleaning. What is the recommended cleaning frequency? I have always cleaned it as I do with firearms. Should I be doing anything different? I do know not to leave oil in the barrel. I will clean it and try the toilet paper trick and remove the suppressor.

How wide of a group should I reasonably expect from my gun at 100' in a rest?

you should get 1/2" groups at that range, you might experience a flier now and then, check your pellets to make sure the skirt isn't damaged, try to stick with the best accuracy pellet, and do not change, some barrels can be finicky, don't clean the barrel like a powder burner rifle, Air gun barrels are not made the same, softer metal, use a Patch and plastic brush if needed, do not use Hoppes or any other powder burner barrel cleaner, it will damage the O-rings, if you have you may need to replace O-rings in the breech and in the transfer port.

do the tissue test at the breech to see if the breech O-ring is bad and check if any air is coming out the side of the breech, that would be the transfer port seals.

In addition to the above if you recently opened a new tin of pellets that could be the problem. My SK-19 was shooting the Hades pellets very well until I opened a new tin and then accuracy with them decreased significantly. When loading the new pellets there were many that would now fall out of the magazine the fit was so sloppy. This was not a problem with the old tin which never had a pellet that was loose in the magazine.

With that large of a swing at that short of a range I would guess damaged/defective pellets or clipping on the moderator.

I finally got a chance to shoot the gun today. I guess I don't understand "removing the shroud". I presumed that you meant the suppressor. I took out the baffles/o'ring and cap and fired 5 shots at the target. None hit the target. I have no idea where they went 😊. I put the baffles back in and pellets went on target, Next I laid a kleenex over the breech. I fired a couple of shots and not even a flutter, so I presume that the seal is in place. Cleaning didn't seem to have much effect. Now I am really puzzled??

As Motorhead says-Clean the barrel! I like to use a pull-through like the Patch Worm or Crown Saver. If my Marauder starts throwing shots I clean the bore and get back to the happy place. My Marauders seem to like the shroud backed off a tiny bit from fully tight.

You can slip a straw over the pull through to thread it through the baffles so you don't need to remove the shroud when cleaning.
