Benjamin Maximus .177

I recently bought a .177 Maximus for the wife and kids. I am happy with the .22 Maximus as it came shooting a good bell curve with a low ES straight from Crosman. I have yet to do anything to the .22 except for a 2 screw trigger mod and lighter trigger spring.

I received the .177 Maximus from PA Friday. I quickly did the 2 screw trigger mod and replaced the trigger spring with a lighter one. Filled the gun to 2000psi and shot a 30shot string with 7.9gr premiers that averaged 950fps and an ES around 30fps. I have alot of 10.5gr premiers and decided to try them. 30 shots at 850fps avg ES around 30fps. I was rather impressed as this is the 3rd new Crosman/Benjamin I have bought in the last year that has come straight from the factory with a good solid tune.

I mounted a 4-16x40 BSA Contender and got it zeroed yesterday. Here is the first 5 shot group at 15 yards with 10.5gr Crosman Premiers.

Now after having both a .22 and .177 Maximus, I think these guns are a great value for new or veteran airgunners alike.

mcoulterThanks for sharing this info! I've been wondering how the shot counts are between the two rifles? Is the .177 capable of more shots per fill?

My .22 gets 20 really tight shots at 830fps with 14.3gr while the .177 gets 30 shots as stated. I have tuned and modded a number of Discoverys, so I know there are all sorts of tuning options for the Maximus. I am content with mine in stock form, but if I wanted to up the shot count and gain efficiency, I would make a couple SSG's.

Both guns shoot very well. Not sure if Crosman sorted their past barrel issues, but both of mine are very accurate for $200 air rifles!!

They are a great low priced gun!! My wife's grandfather has always said you should buy 2 of every gun you really like.
