N/A Best .177 LW barrel for slugs?

My .177 Redwolf Hp is supplied with what daystate calls an ART barrel, it stands for Accuracy Research Team. The barrel is a LW Polygon with a choke. And its a laser with slugs. Especially with Jsb Knockout and the Barrel likes speed too. I tested with 1065 fps at 100m it was still a laser.
Thanks for your comment Claus 🙂
I was under the impression that it should be unchoked. Do you have an idea why yours comes with a choke instead of unchoked?
Perhaps a less aggressive? (Costom made for Daystate)

Same here. Mine prefers the 12.5's but it is unbelievable for a .177 slug gun.

Epic airguns is using a polygonal LW barrel for their #2 barrel option, not choked.
I will be interested in hearing what it will cost you to have a blank barrel chambered ASO
I have found LW barrels in Holland, but I want to make sure that I get the right version.
Epic still have no designated slug shooter in 177. Asked them about a week ago.

I use an LW 12g standard No choke at full length 23.7"
Shoots NSA 12.5 @ 1060 fps, and 15's @ 980 fps there about with fantastic accuracy.
Scott,
What gun is that barrel in? 1060 is a bit out of reach for my RedWolf. I am shooting the same projectile right at 1000. I would love to try them at 1050 or so.

There have been great results with both. Scott mentioned his unchoked the standard rifling barrel and mine is the poly. Interestingly, both he and I are shooting the same NSA .178 in 12.5 gr.
What liner and length are you shooting in your impact? I just picked up a 600mm superior heavy .177 liner to try in an FX.

Great looking gun.
How do you like it? What all have you customized?
My buddy bought one of the first ones but didn't keep it long enough to learn anything.
I have had it since 2020 ... After working in the JSAR factory in late 19 & early 2020 just before and as the Covid 19 outbreak was happening, I was also a Sponsored shooter using the platform in Field Target tuned as such in a .20 cal configuration all threw the 2020 FT season
Tried a few type valve & hammer set ups to establish a tight ES, which led to further R&D to better the balanced valve design.
So now running once again in High Output mode it sports my own Balanced Valve design, Hammer & SSG. Has a very unique tapered transfer port set up along with some small design tweaks in other areas. Overall they have great potential, and in recent years the new owner of JSAR " Mathew" has done much in further refining the platform. How successful he is being selling these after the JSAR's troubled years I have no idea .. New owner never really reached out to get my R&D advancements, but liken seen plenty of threads posted along the journey on the GTA forum over 2 3 years of actively fiddling with it.

For me it has been an R&D platform used with .177 / .20 /.22 / .25 & .30 cal barrels with corresponding valve set up & general tuning applied.
As to power in each caliber achieved, being stout tho not maxed out @ this: .177 = 38 fpe .20 = 45 fpe .22 = 56 fpe .25 = 70 fpe .30 = 90fpe

I must admit that Im a bit confused from the answers 😃
The upside is that the LW barrels seems to perform very well in many configurations.
Mainly shooting 16 gr slugs I do believe that the unchoked version would be better. And with Daystate using the polygonal barrel this might be the one that I choose.
Regarding the choke used in the ART barrel I cant imagine that it is similar to the stock barrel from LW. I strongly believe that theirs are made with certain costum specifications, so having to choose between a choke that might be tighter that the one Engfred mentions and an unchoked barrel that will fit a heavier slug better, it will probably be polygonal without choke🤓

Thanks for your input guys 🤗

Ohh and Btw Im using the 700 mm heavy liner on my Impact and it performs really well 😎
16 gr Zan at 960 fps doing groups less that 2 cm every time I go shooting. Not every group ofcause 😂
Best group on camera 1,1 cm and best ever group a bit better 😉

You will get LESS power with a poly over a traditional 12g with equal tune settings.
Poly IS NOT a round bore but a 6 sided wave type shape that requires the projectile shot to be reformed to the bore shape when shot .. this absorbs power !!
As well due to much heavier handling / reshaping of a slug in a poly bore, leading as well typically greater

FYI ... good luck ;)

Hmm but why does a campany like Daystate choose the poly over the standard? 🤔
