Design wise I really like the URAGAN, with the grip so close to the barrel it takes away the top heavy factor that you have in the majority of Pups.

"best" bullpup

Having owned two bull pups, FX Wildcat and now Cricket 2 Tactical, I highly recommend the Cricket. This is the quietest, most accurate and has the best shots per fill. Watch for AEAC, he will be airing a review of the Cricket 2 Tactical in a couple of weeks. You will be impressed.

The HW 100 action is second to none in the German engineering dept. Arguably one of the best actions designed.

As you've seen here...there IS NO "best" !
Bullpups were originally designed as..."close combat weapons". A rifle that can be easily used inside of a building. "Easily" being the key word.
A true "bullpup" should be no longer than 30", by their "original" design, this include the addition of a suppressor ! The rest are just normal, long barreled rifles with the action behind the trigger ! Or as some call them, semi-bullpup !
In a somewhat order (all of the below are very accurate guns, even to 75 and 100 yrds) -
1. Airmaks, Caiman (or Caiman X), much more than people give them credit for, a very solid gun.
2. RTI, Prophet Compact, another very solid choice. Can be made pretty quiet to keep it short (without the addition of a suppressor).
3. Uragan Compact, Great little gun, easy to shoot
4. FX, Wildcat Compact, Another great gun, easy to shoot
5. / 5-1/2, Daystate, Renegade and Pulsar, Yes, they have a rear mounted cocking lever, BUT, they have a trigger (electronic) that can't be matched.
6. Edgun, Lelya, a solid, tough gun. The cocking is a little stiff. Can be beat around in the bush, with no damage.
Don't forget the newer Cricket II's too. The Compact and the Tactical are also worth a look.
There others but they are over your dollar value.

Shot these three groups with one of my .22 Veteran shorties today. 77 yards. Front and rear bags.
Very light wind was moving POI around just a tad.
18gr JSB at 870fps. 5 shots each.
From the magazine. No sorting. Right outa the tin.
Got an extra scope level laying around. Thinking about throwing it on.

Jeff, the recommendation above of the HW100 BP should be considered. I have an HW100 rifle, and I agree with the comments regarding the quality of the action. Having no personal experience with the BP version, I can't speak from that perspective, but it is for sure a great action.

IV SHOT THE HW 100BP BOTH VERSIONS VERY HEAVY LITTLE GUN ALMOST 9 POUNDS I THINK ? BUT BUILT VERY WELL AS MOST GERMAN GUNS ARE.

Tossing this one out to Ed, kinda think he may have a hand in this. Replaced my then 23 year old Tim tuned 707 with a synthetic stock RM5 last Spring. Aging ergonomics... It's the most practical airgun I own and the one I recommend to local farmers. IT'S A TOOL.
Ed's designs have proper ergonomics no "Turkey Neck." Many of the bullpups mentioned (and a whole bunch of "tactical ?" rifles) have the same crutch, a truncated cheek weld at the rear of the stock.

Can only speak from what I’ve shot so its still limited. Really like my rti so far, the katran is a nice gun, and the wildcat is a great gun also. This weekend they all stayed in there cases and we all shot the RTI.

I like my Maverick VP. 600 mm barrel, $1500. works well. I've a .22. easy to adjust fps and ft/lbs. I intend to acquire a .25 caliber kit later on.

I liken the Taipan cocking lever to going around your elbow to scratch your ass. In this age of ergonomics, how could that happen? I really like the Cricket Tactical II but the weight?! I have a FX Dream Tack and am leaning towards the Wildcat III. The Caiman or Caiman X fascinate me as well due to their extremely small size. I think the Prophet is really great looking but am unsure of its reliability reputaion. The Huben would be my choice were it not for the fixed mag same for the LCI. NO such thing as a quick reload and what do you do in the event of a squirrel charge? The FWB weighs a ton as well, 9 pounds HW 100 I believe it was. I am not getting it today or tomorrow and am watching all the YT vids.

Always gotta be one guy
I almost passed on the Veteran due to this issue. But I decided, the rifle is so popular, if I don't like it, selling it should be easy, So, I bought one, and it has proven to be one of my favorite rifles. Because of a bad shoulder, there are days when I would not want to carry it a lot. But the inherent accuracy of the Veteran is up there with my RAW and Red Wolf, not bad company.

For shooting closer to 60 yards and to targets or small animals, then, my vote would be for the Daystate Renegade .177
For shooting to longer distance (of the rifles I know), my vote would be with Airgun Technology (Vulcan 2 or Uragan).
After a LOT of changes, my semibullpup Bantam Sniper is shooting really well.
