Best for rats? (30ft-50yds)

Hey, i have a Webley stingray quantum air rifle, and i have been using various pellets to shoot rats, i generally shoot from my back door which is 48 or so yards to where they normally are. They are a nuisance they eat the chickens food, i live in micheldever and they are wild so there is no way i can wipe them out completely, i'm just trying to stop them from multiplying out of hand. What pellets are ideal for such range and accuracy? i use power pellet lube as well.

My uncle raises sheep and has a rat problem around the feed and water troughs. For years my brother has been "rat sniping" in my uncle's barn using a .177 R9 and 7.9 grain Crosman Premier dome from the 1250 count box. I went on one of his ratting hunts at the barn and the advice I got was to only "head shoot" them because the rat is very tough and they will bet back to their hole with a double ling hit to die later and "stink up the barn" attracting other vermin. On that outing during a family reunion I did shoot at one rat with my .177 R9 using CPLs and the pellet hitting the rat's head made a cracking noise. The rat just "shook around" where hit and didn't move a foot from the water trough.

Anywhoo....obviously I'm not an expert "ratter" but it does seem to me that the best pellet choice is one that's accurate enough to place between the eye and ear from the distance you shoot plus has enough penetration to mess up the brain. For me that rules out the "trick pellets" in favour of a good solid accurate dome pellet.
