Best instant kill shot placement for small rats?

Although, in this picture, it would seem that the target areas (size) are the same... From my own experience, learning how to hit the heart from all angles is better than trying to hit the brain. JMHO
My *ultimate* shot is one where I can hit the brain AND the heart with one shot. I have done it several times, but everything has to line up perfectly.
Your chances for a clean kill are much higher going for the heart shot with pests as small as rats, tree rats and chipmunks. Again... JMHO

It just hit me that you are shooting through "chicken wire"! Damn, that is about 1 inch or less holes to shoot through!
I have often shot through 2 layers of chain link fencing and only recently have I had a pellet deflected... but, to be honest, I would never even try to shoot through chicken wire, as I am familiar with, because the chances of deflection would be so much higher than shooting through 2 layers of chain link!
If you can do it, then good for you! But I seriously doubt it. (smile)

I have been doing for a while now. I have killed over 40 rats now. With alloy pointed pellets, it is dead on accurate. The only issue is that it doesnt kill them right away, and they run for 5-10 seconds.
Lead wad cutters = gets stuck on chicken wire. Ruines the wire. Chickens eat pellet and die.
Lead pointed = gets rarely stuck but chickens eat pellet and die.
Alloy wad cutters = bursts through chicken wire. Ruins chicken wire. Chickens dont eat them.
Alloy pointed = it bends wires but dead on accurate. I can hit an eye of a rat. No permanent damage to wires, no dead chickens. No rat has survived being shot with this, but they survive for 5-10 seconds.
I am just trying to minimize the time of survival. My apologies if anyone was hurt or upset from my previous posts, i will try to be more sensitive about how i write.
I wanted to avoid writing this entire thing out, and simply ask “where to shoot for drop kill small rats with small, light weight, alloy poined pellet.

Your questions have been answered and suggestions been given, but you are determined to stay with what you think works the best even though this last post proves that you can't shoot through the chicken wire without hitting it.
You have been given a picture/chart of the vitals of a rat.
No matter what we suggest, you will not be satisfied.
I tried my best to help you and I think the other responders did the same... but you are determined to stay your course and disregard ALL suggestions.
So why even make a post on a forum for suggestions if you already know what you are going to do?

I’ve asked a question on a cooking forum ten years ago about cooking home grown eggplants. Someone did finally answer the question, it was a simple answer, but the previous posts ranged from why i should thow away cooking oil, to why i need to buy a better stove, to how to grow my own carrots instead.
I completely understand people are trying to help. But i wasnt going to buy a new stove and throw away the eggplants and grow carrots instead…
But i truely do appreciate people trying to help, even if the replies are indeed not what i am looking for. I am grateful for the knowledge i’ve gotten from AGN so far. My sincerest apologies to anyone offended from my previous posts, they were not meant to offend.

Sorry but I have to call BS on this one,......... if it bends the wire it will also deflect significantly and definitely not gonna be dead on accurate.

It would deflect significantly if the rat is far from the mesh. The rat is usually on the mesh, or right behind it. This is because all the chicken food is there.
No reason to bs. Im having absolutely no issues with accuracy. My issue is damage to the wires, and rat not droping instantly

Shot placement is shot placement… you said you have no problem with accuracy… what was that question you had answered in your own head, again? Oh, never mind… seems like you were long winded in not trying to be. A simple internet search would’ve set you right. If you have no problem with accuracy than what’s your problem with the kills? You have to be very good to get them DRT kills. Otherwise they’re going to flop around a lot like you’re describing. Again good luck trying to shoehorn those pellets through the mesh.

That's rats I've seen don't sit still very long. Going for a headshot is iffy because they're always moving their heads. So a lung or heart shot is the way to go for me. If I'm a little bit off they're still going to die, but they're going to move some before they drop dead. I don't feel too much remorse of rats suffering, because they've made me suffer from equipment, building and wiring damage. I've only shot one. Waiting for one takes too long. I much rather trap them so I don't have to sit around waiting for one to show up.

right in the noggin ..cant go wrong .. or if your in a place you can use a big gun like a .25, a shot in the money maker and out the mouth is pretty final ...

I’ve tried shooiting their eye, lung, head, etc… for some reason they do not die on spot. They move for about 5 to 10 seconds. I see their dead body and it was hit exactly where i aimed. I will try aiming for brain, between eye and ear

Thanks everyone! So far, it seems the advice are for heart, spine, lungs and brain. I will try to time which has the shortest time of survival. I think i might have easiest shot with heart. Because the rats are usually on a chicken wire, their belly facing me.
