I believe that the Steyr Hunting 5 is a great looking rifle. Fit and finish are excellent and it shoots like a dream. Not mine, but I had one just like it several years ago. I sold it because I didn't want to damage it hunting it was so nice.
Around 2005 I ordered a supply of Crosman premier. 20 caliber pellets from Airgun Express...I believe they were located in Iowa...Included in the order was a product catalog with pictures of Theoben air guns...Beeman branded...Super 12, Crowmagnum, and SLR 98...all with choice stocks...H
eck, I didn't see their reailly nice ones till years later...I wish I would have bought a dozen each back then.plus a couple other Theoben models I didn't even know about. I am privileged to own two Theoben gas ram air rifles with factory stocks that just bring tears to my eyes and impossible to choose "which ONE", They have been posted before but for the sake of our newer member(s) I will post again...I never tire of admiring the wood AND the English oldworld craftsmanship myself. On the AGN forum over the years I've noticed threads concerning "nice" wood or stocks ect. AND threads about .20 caliber usually get a lot of views/attention, This Eliminator is both.....20 cal and the nicest stock/wood I ever saw in person...almost...Then the Theoben SLR 88 Imperator FT...that wood and craftsmanship...only shot them one or two pellets to test...You pick your favorite...I can't...
The QB-77 that I had Tim McMurray machine a 5mm L/W barrel for. First 5mm QB ever. Custom stock and the first extended reservoir tube ever as well. I miss being cutting edge... That rifle shot one-hole groups all day long.
I few weeks ago I looked at a friends air Venturi avenger multi-color laminate stock when it was still in the box and I thought it was ugly. Horrendous! But I shot it today and it is starting to grow and on me.
'I have six walnut and steel traditional rifles I will never sell: AAA Paradigm .30; Daystate Airwolf MCT .22; Daystate Hunstman Regal .20; Air Arms S510 Carbine FAC .22; Daystate MKIV .177 and my trusty BSA R10 .177. There is just something about Walnut and steel that goes together for me. Dates back to my M-14 in the Marine Corps.
I bought this one specifically for the stock a few years back.... an Old Daystate CR-X. Gotta be my favorite at this point in time! In action last weekend. Usually use for FT but had to go benchrest. It shot a 724 in some swirling wind 25 yards heavy varmint. Took 1st place. Disclaimer though, I was the only one shooting <20 ft lbs! Thx Dan
