Best PCP Rifle?

I’m new to the PCP world (2 months) and what a big world it is! I bought a inexpensive XM1 and a hand pump. Gun shot so good I wanted something “better”. So I bought an Akela, great gun (best gun for the money) but it didn’t fit me very well. My wife was glad to take it off my hands which gave me the green light for another try. After much, much research I bought a used bantam sniper from Dr. Mike. F*%king awesome, I’m blown away. The addiction has started! Why did I buy a pcp. It never ends, the search for “the” gun. Why??? I ask? Why? So I bought a used .25 FX Dreamline from hfloyd! This has got to stop!!!

Good luck on your adventure into the vast world of PCP’s!

P.S. Don’t even ask about accessories you’ll need (want)!

Best PCP's (for me) are FX Royale 500 & FX Boss. Simplicity of design, fit & feel, pinpoint accuracy, MINIMAL maintenance, dependability & repeatability time after time after time, etc. FX has never made a more accurate platform. The impact is way more adjustable but not necessarily more accurate. Read all the "problem posts " on the Impact & then try to find some on the Royale platform! For my tastes there's just WAY too much to go wrong in the more complicated guns. I want to be assured that if I do MY part that I need never worry about the gun(s). Few weeks back I made 2 kills consecutively @175 & then 178 yards with the Boss. I feel very fortunate that have these incredible tools to work with!!!

(That was with PELLETS, not slugs!!!)

Sorry I just can't let go of the money thing, my FX that I bought used I love it, but I cannot let go of 14 15K and up for a new target toy

When it comes to Hunting game I still have to go with the Air Force Line, Although they need to get their head back out of the clouds and start listening to their customers again I know this Covid then the Riots have put a parts supply shortage on them but still they do have some issues

For me this is the biggest thing

There are a lot of good quality guns on the market, But if the customer service and support behind them sucks I am not interested in owning one

AF has never/ever listened to their costomers, other than to steal their ideas after funning said customer for suggesting an improvement! Arrogant, and willfully ignorant. AF moto!

I appreciate everyone’s input. I have a few good PCP’s but I’ve been away from it for awhile and a lot has changed since I was shooting regularly. I asked my question because I’d like to get just one more haha all around great rifle that is accurate and reliable and I wanted to know what you guys considered best to you. Today’s guns seem to have a few more issues than I remember but could be I got lucky with what I own.

Thanks again!

Hi All.... I have yet to put my $ where my mouth is but I will! My vote all around pcp....Daystate Regal .22 unregulated set to 40 ft/lbs.

why? Light to carry, beautiful bar NONE, accurate, at 40 ft/lbs heavier pellets for hunting. Never read poi changes when inactive and a tough quality build. AND the stand out pcp to convert any in the PB crowd to Airguns. Not so expensive you can’t take it out and shoot- no? I guess expensive enough to keep this only my “theory gun” ....None the less...

Opinions are cheap and fun, and that’s mine with conviction! Boom! Or pphisst:)....

I think maybe the question should be what is your favorite PCP rifle. Not to be repetitive, but the original post question was what is best PCP rifle based on reliability and accuracy. Now those points can be highly debated. What works for one person may not for another. The most accurate may not be the most reliable and vice versa. Accurate shooting comes down to more than choice of gun. Accurate at what range? Accurate shooting what caliber? What type of ammo? What type of shooting? Reliability can be degraded by type of shooter, lack of maintenance, air quality etc.

Maybe a car analogy, there is no most reliable car, it comes down to how you take care of your vehicle and use it or abuse it. Two of the same make/model/year car can have two totally different reliability records based on the owners use and care of the car. How reliable will a 1/2 ton pickup be doing a 1 ton trucks work be ? The most high performance car is generally not the most reliable! That may be the same when it comes to accuracy, the most accurate may require more attention.

The best PCP rifle would be the one you can handle comfortably/properly and can afford to buy and continue to afford to supply it supplies/accessories/air/ammo.

My thoughts for what they are worth. I am no air gun expert just giving my take on things and doing my part to keep these threads going.

The "best one" (favorite one) in my collection is my Taipan Veteran .22 standard, I have FX's I have Daystates and they are great airrifles, but the Taipan's solid simple design has stopped me from "playing the field", it shoots CP domes as well as JSB's, I shot these 6 shot groups at 48 1/2 yards "sitting" in my deck chair, the domes are averaging 950fps @ 70+ shots/fill. The design and ease of use of the mags and single shot tray and of course the trigger make it stand out, and I just generally like the overall design, it's built like things used to be built in the '40's and '50's...there a little heavy but that's the price for the solid build quality! I will get one in .177 someday!

That is some good shooting and a great looking rifle and it looks like it might be mouse fart quiet!

when folks find out im into airguns, they ask that same question.....

My answer? “what are you gonna do with it and how much money to spend?”

the answer to those two questions will narrow the definition of “Best”

If you are a rank noob, then Id say something like a Marauder might be best for YOU at your level of experience. As Orion noted, you WILL BE buying more or other guns if you stay in the hobby and gain experience. AT that point, YOUR definition of best will have some real world knowledge, and you’ll have an idea of, at the very least, what isnt best for you

your budget will also help define “best” as anything beyond your budget wont need to be considered......

There's a lot to that. If a gun's ergonomics aren't a fit for you, you probably won't shoot it as well and have as much fun. We are all built differently and even small differences can loom large when you're trying to keep your love for a piece of equipment of any type.

Unfortunately, most people can only put their hands on and truly get a feel for a very small portion of the airguns out there, especially the mid- to higher-level ones. We are buying on faith and hoping for the best. People can tell us about power, etc., but there's a lot about the best "fit" for us that nobody can tell us.

FX Wildcat or Impact for me. I have both and can’t decide which one I prefer. I love the Wildcat feel, but it lacks air cc, only 230cc. The impact isn’t near as comfortable, but has huge bottle capacity, dual tanker, etc. That bottle/tube size really matters when shooting .25+ and slugs. I’ll happy sell my Impact MK2, when FX comes out with a bottle Wildcat! That would be the one gun to rule them all!
