N/A Best Resale Value

Just my .02, but I think the quality springers have the best resale value. The offerings from HW, AA and the now discontinued Theobens and Walther LGU/ LGV are good options (older Walther too). Especially ones with nice wood. I will say that the springers guys aren’t as numerous and may be fading away, but I think they will endure.

As for PCPs, I think it’s a crap shoot. Older Theoben and RAW, USFT, Steyr all seem to hold value. I’m sure there are more but there are definitely way more that six months down the road have significantly less resale value. Especially the complicated models because there is more to go wrong.

In general, many vintage springers were better than modern ones while very few vintage PCP's are better than their modern counterparts.

If you're into springers, there are only about a dozen different high end models that are still produced, so the used market naturally has a high demand.

PCP's on the other hand have more new models available than ever before and are constantly improving, so the people buying on the used market are largely bargain hunters.

They're only worth what someone will pay for them. Upgrades are a slippery slope, some will pay more, some won't, it's a crapshoot, so do as you like and don't worry about it, is my opinion.
I usually do a lot to my airguns, if they turn out special, then I keep them for a while, if I change my mind or don't like them, they're sold, for whatever they bring. I accept that.

Look at the Brocock Sniper, I have an HR and it is one ROCK SOLID rifle, but if you go to sell it, you'd be lucky to get $800 out of it, and the newer XR sells for $1500? I love mine, it's not the most powerful, or the lightest, but it just works, every time. So, it stays. I buy almost all of my guns used, and if they need rebuilt, then I do it. I've gotten most of them for a good deal and they're served me well. I don't give much thought to resale value, until someone mentions it.

The market does seem stagnant right now, and I'm not sure why. I think, at least, a lot of the prices in the classifieds are reasonable, compared to new. I admit some are out of line. If you see a used gun listed for only a hunderd or so off new, it's going to have a hard time selling. Fact of life. Me, I believe in trading, then you can get a deal on both ends. I may not always get the gun I'm looking for, but sometimes, as in the case of my Cricket Carbine, you get much more than you expected.

For some it's brand dependent, others it's models within a brand. But used is used and the 70% of new price is still my benchmark for sales and purchases.

Examples:
  • Daystate - the Alpha/Delta Wolf have terrible resale value. Other models not as bad.
  • Kalibrgun - most Cricket models have terrible resale value. It's so bad I won't even buy Kalibrgun new.
  • FX seems to mostly have good resale value.
  • Taipan, BRK, American Air Arms, RTI, EdGun all maintain decent resale.
Wondering how long it is going to take impact owners to figure out what they are really worth. I watch the classifieds like a hawk and they haven’t yet.

I noticed too. The asking price is much closer to the new one.
Yes…unfortunately they will have to press below 1500 or keep their M3’s. Is what it is, none are moving at 15. I have a wildcat bt vp I was thinking about trying to move but hate to think what that might bring. lol I’ll just keep it.

I think the issues with the used market are as most have posted with the bloated, damn near full price asking...

The other Major issue is how the gun has been treated over its life span .
As some have mentioned, air fill quality is a big one as well as the unknown abuse factor, some used guns have had it pretty rough with the "titty twisting" of every knob and dial on it trying to max the gun out.. Not to mention just lack of basic maintenance .. In turn directly affects the resale

If I buy a used gun I normally ONLY deal with someone I have done business with in the past and know they take care of their stuff like I take care of mine....
