Best state to live/retire ?

Here's my place a few weeks ago.
The snow can be considered good or bad depending on how you feel. I love how pretty it is and it makes cozying up to our wood stove and fireplace that much more comforting, but at the same time I don't care much for playing in it anymore. Ha, we layed low and didn't go into town for a week. :D

I visited there in Aug in the panhandle and the humidity made people walking outside resemble the living dead. High humidity for even two months is a no go for me.
Yeah but as one big media person said just last week about Florida. “Desantis is creating a right wing paradise”. They were spinning it very negative and to me it was the best advertisement for Florida I have ever heard. Lmao.

The cost of living is very cheap in New Mexico if you compare it to Arizona, Colorado, and Texas. A lot of people from California buy second house here and fly back and forth. I've met several at the shooting range. One thing that's a plus for NM is we have a lot of BLM land where you can shoot/ hunt small game all you want. Winters are very mild here but up north can get a lot of snow.
Crystal and I are considering selling out here and moving over there. She wants the milder warmer weather, and I am attracted to the open BLM lands
and plenty of things to hunt out there. Have you been there long? We are thinking that if we sell all 4 houses here, we should be able to get a small place with some land. We like our space.

I moved here from Arizona in 2002.

I heard on Fox News 390,000 people moved to Florida last year and 200 and something thousand moved to Texas. If you go north of Panama City let's say your in the backwoods with lower income properties and acreage for sale but in 15 years Florida will be overwhelmed and a lot of these folks bring there political ideas with them hence ruing the state.

They're leaving Los Angeles and New York in groves. Personally the high heat and humidity is a killer down south.

Decades ago I read an article suggesting "if you enjoy hunting/shooting/camping and want to ensure your kids and grand kids have a place to pursue those activities, buy some land...I took that advice...it's never easy and it wasn't but some things are worth the effort and expence. I live in north west Florida on an off the beaten path Island of Ceder Key by design it is a popular tourist spot...I see and talk to folks every day from NY Calif NJ Ill Wis Min Mich New England areas and others looking for a house in this area...same thing in TN where I just moved from...my entire neighborhood in TN was bought by Californians...I talked to these people. I also have property inland to shoot and garden...10 AC's taxes 550. per year. Land is available inland but getting something built is another matter...we're having an addition built after two years their just pouring the foundation, the cement mixer just pulled up, and finding a house....you are competing with people who just sold houses in the afore mentioned states, with tons of cash,...for reasons I won't go into. I wouldn't wait to buy property many many people aren't...something to consider, ask yourself how much better and easier will moving be in 10-15 years?

I am so glad where I am. I have always been next to the ocean,The flag flys above our place on the Delta. It has been there for over 100 years. For us it is an easy thing to get away from the "people". I am not rich, but I am lucky .God Bless America and peace come to our world.View attachment 330511

Yeah, great weather great views and the 2nd most restrictive firearm laws in the country. Not going into the rest of the downsides.

@RM100GUY I have to agree. If you got the chance to buy some land, I suggest to do so. If we folks in the states not manufacturing products, other countries are. The land on the other hand, what is here, is all we will ever have. I’ve got 5 acres. And sacrifices were made to achieve it. We also have the family farm to hunt and play on. I feel truly blessed. Especially when I see people lose their range, or have to drive an hour each way just to shoot. Almost just takes the fun out of it.

Pretty....COLD

Pretty....COLD

It was 14 this morning but the snow has more than halfway melted as shown in my photos because it gets into the mid 40's a few days a week.

I tolerate cold easier than heat. I absolutely hate trying to sleep when I'm hot - its miserable to me. I sleep best if it's around 60 degrees so the cooler 3 seasons suit me better as far as that goes.

This is gonna sound odd but the hottest I've felt was when I was out in the sun on concrete at a friends place in early October at 6000 ft elevation. I had to wet my shirt and sit down a while in the shade! It's because the sun at higher altitudes is more intense feeling and of course heat coming off the concrete.

Having the ability to transition from property's in different climate zones to follow the most desired temps at different times of the year would be wonderful!

I retired from PA to southern coastal NC (near Wilmington). While I live in a gated community with small lot sizes I know that there are plenty of areas with lots that are more than two acres. Hunting a plenty and low cost / high standard of living. Low taxes that are even lower for retirees. Very mild winters (I play golf year round). Check it out!

Yes the summers here in Florida are steamy guns sweat up when taken outside than you sweat on the guns...however the 8 months or so of nice weather makes up for summer...Evidently one Sam Hill of a lot of people don't mind summers in Fla....just ask the 400k who moved here JUST LAST YEAR. (66* now)
