Best version of the FX Panthera for hunting.

As a hunter the last thing I want to be doing is always tuning, I want to grab and go, thats why I have the rifles I have. Do you want to hunt or do you want to fiddle and tune?
I can't afford two PCP guns. I would rather get one great gun that I can tune some what instead of buying two.

Agree 1000 and 1%, as a hunter tune the rifle for his application and leave it !......need different application, get an other rifle and set it for that.

Target shooting ? ........different matter, play around with all the gadgets it's only paper anyway 😂

Here is another thing. People that shoot match pb also use them for hunting. So why are people looking down on the Panthera for hunting? Particularly the 500 version.
As already pointed out its slower and tiny shot count. It simply doesnt offer the same performance as other options in the same price range. You asked a bunch of strangers on the internet to give you advice and got lots. If you just want somebody to agree with your choice so you can feel better about ordering something I can do that too. I really like the looks of the 500mm Panthera and would love to own one myself.

That is my thought, the Panthera is 1900 dollars plus tax (possibly) , likely free shipping. Plus optics for 150 yard shooting.... based on OP original post
For that money you might not be able to get 2 rifles that are "high end" exactly but you are very close, for hunting a dairy farm for critters you can use a PROD for crying out loud. Or get something like a Caiman, they are just over $1000 right now I believe on UA.

Shooting at paper, fiddle and tune away, to me having to change tunes on an air rifle for hunting purposes is silly, its not as controlled as say, just switching to a less loaded PB round.

I think you looking at this through some opaque lenses and got suckered in by the marketing and hype .

you ever hunted with PCPs ?

what is the different applications you will need said PCP for ?

I am conflicted about the gun. I know it is not for hunting but it seems like a good hunting gun. I just don't know.

Yes I have hunted with PCPs before. I have a BT65 from Hatsan. I am going to use this for hunting in the forests of Idaho and maybe a dairy or two. I keep mentioning I want the tuning because I cant afford two great guns. I would rather get 1 great gun with all the accessories or upgrades it needs. Then buy two with nothing on them besides a mediocre scope on each of them.

Or just buy something like a Gen1 Uragan.

Would you explain why you specified Gen 1 of the Uragan?

I really like that gun, and the comments in this thread point me to consider the Uragan (along with the Prophet II) for my long range slug shooting dream.

Honestly its MOSTLY just the Price stand point, I have an early Uragan .30 that with no regulator tuning is shooting absolutely remarkably with slugs and pellets, the .30 barrels both short and long are unchoked with a 15.7 twist rate (i think the new ones are too). There are also 12 set screws that hold the barrel in (gen 1) vs 8 (gen 2) and from discussion this has really helped with the harmonic dampening. See one of my previous posts in this thread I posted a 2 magazine group at 102 yards, I hadn't even cleaned the barrel (i got it used) at that point.

So you already have one PCP to set up for your dairy hunt,...then get the panthera and set it up for your other type of hunt,....anyway how often do this said different hunts are going to take place ?

I know you are looking at the 500mm version because of the length BUT given you said you only buying 1 gun I would highly recommend looking at the 600mm version if you want to shoot pass 100 yards. The stock 500mm version would shoot the 23 grain slugs great but they do start to drift descent amount in the wind. For hunting at over 100 yards you might want to try heavier/higher BC slugs which you will need the power and heavy liner in the 600mm version, I think the 600MM version is the best all around version out of the line up and absolutely great for hunting and target shooting. When target shooting I tether anyways and when I actually hunt squirrels or rabbits I rarely shot more than 5-6 hunting shots per session, I don't even bother fill my Impact mag half way when I go hunt.

This is like the US airforce trying to decide to keep the F-22 Raptor or the F-35 lightning. On one hand you have guns like the Uragan that are great at hunting and target but you can't tune them for different ammo or places to hunt. Then you have guns like the Brocock Ghost or Panthera that can be used for more general purpose. Hunting, target shooting, match competition, etc.

I wish but it can't shoot crap. The BT65 can't hold a group past 20 yards. With H&N pellets. Also it is very heavy. 16 pounds in weight. I would hunt mostly in the summer or fall. Maybe 2 or three times during the summer. I need to make connections that own dairies. I have only lived in Idaho for 4-5 months
