Best version of the FX Panthera for hunting.

This is like the US airforce trying to decide to keep the F-22 Raptor or the F-35 lightning. On one hand you have guns like the Uragan that are great at hunting and target but you can't tune them for different ammo or places to hunt. Then you have guns like the Brocock Ghost or Panthera that can be used for more general purpose. Hunting, target shooting, match competition, etc.

FX guns and Daystate D/AWolf are the only guns that can repeatbly/dependably change tunes to shoot different ammo on the fly. I usually have 2 ammo tuned for each of my FX guns and one I have 3 ammos tuned and zeroed, just need to turn the HS dial to shoot them at the same speed and zero. I only need to worry about difference in drop when I shoot different ammo.

I was just looking at the specs, for my application I would get a .30 in the 600 version, under 8#, 43" long and 130 FPE
The biggest animal I would go after is a raccoon. The Idaho forests are more open then other forests. But I would want the 500 version for compactness while still having over 70 fpe of power.

I hate to bring this up, as some people really hate bullpups — but that's why they designed them in the first place:
SHORT — with the same amount of power as a regular stock rifle.

Have you looked at the RTI Priest II Performance?
In .22cal and .25cal it comes with a RTI proprietary barrel made for both slugs and pellets. And the power potential is just amazing. Shot count leaves the Panthera in the dust.
Fully adjustable (without taking it apart).
Very ruggedly made.
Barrel/caliber change kits available.

I am conflicted about the gun. I know it is not for hunting but it seems like a good hunting gun. I just don't know.
I dont think anyone is going to tell you its a bad option for hunting per se. But if you are going to spend the money there are certainly better options. And for reference I think you will want at least a heavy slug 36-40 going 1000fps minimum (22cal) in a setup that can do 1moa; in order to hunt at long ranges. Not many rifles can do that, and as of now I dont expect the 500mm or 600mm Panthera is able to. Is it better than say an Avenger? Sure but personally I would get an Uragan 2 or Vulcan 3 or Impact M3 before a Panthera for any purpose. But that is just one mans opinion, America is a wonderful place full of choice and different tastes

I will look at the RTI Prophet 2 Performance

I know I have looked at all of those. I really like the Vulcan 3 550 mm barrel version.

Okay glad I am not alone in that. Now you see why I want to spend almost $2000 on a airgun.
Your probably like most of us. Started with lower priced Guns and worked your way up from the disappointments!
I finally got out of the 'Flavor of the Month' Club and got a great deal on an FX Dreamline with only 500 rounds through it.
I had resealed several so knew how well they could shoot! My BEST Evanix .30, tuned by Will Piatt, still didn't match a nearly stock FX!

I am going to go out on a limb here and mention the Taipan .25 long.

I shot 33.95 JSB out of that accurately to 115 yards with 65fpe at muzzle, this pellet has the highest BC out of any of the JSB, it can be detuned with a quick turn of the HST to shoot slower or lighter pellets to fit your 25fpe need.

It is arguably the most rugged (aside from the airforce platform) pcp out there....

I have researched that one as well and it is on my top five. That would be good because this is the second PCP I will have ever owned.

Well if that is all you need there's a score of good guns out there, I would seriously be looking at the Uragan, Veteran long
