Best way to remove the existing finish on a wood stock?

I've got a Benjamin Akela with a Turkish walnut stock. I'd like to modify the stock a bit so that it fits me better, but I'd also like to remove the existing finish first? What methods are people using that work best?

Some type of mild citrus stripper, scrape with plastic scraper, wash/scrub with water, then sand the bejezus out of it. I just used dark walnut minwax danish oil on this. I originally used un-dyed danish oil, and the color was so light, it looked wierd. Wish I had photos of that. Do have one of stock paritally sanded....

What's not to like? It's hard to tell from the pic, I would give it a wipe down with that Minwax antique finish in the red can. You might be surprised!
