Better than Disneyland

I just got off the phone with a farmer friend who is going to show me a new place to hunt pestilent ground squirrels. I can't speak for you fellers, but I would rather have an hour in a new hunting ground than a week at Disneyland. What makes it even more fun is being able to be have it all to myself...no waiting in line, no parking problems, no traffic, no screaming rugrats, and now that I'm retired I can go any day of the week. Being all alone is not my first choice, but my shooting buddy passed away. Now when I find a new spot to shoot, he always goes with me in my thoughts. We used to have some terrific times out shooting together. Don't take your good times or your friends for granted, they don't last forever.

Not too far away. I'm in Clovis.
I used to do a lot of shooting in the Clovis/Fresno area. In fact, one of the best spots I ever hunted was in an old fig orchard in Northeast Fresno. The squirrels were so abundant that there were dust clouds over the dirt roads they traversed. We would literally have piles of squirrel carcasses at the end of the day. The last time I went to that spot the farmer had rows of five gallon buckets of bait set out. Whenever the bait stations come out, the shooting is over. It was great while it lasted. If ever you want to meet up, PM me on Facebook. There are two people named John Woitalla on Facebbook, so double check the profile.

I'm right there with you brother! Sitting out in nature on beautiful California agricultural acreage, wine vineyards, avocado orchards, meeting up with hunting buddies (Thanks Centercut, Revoman, Pesty3782) & waiting to hear the SCHWACK of a ground squirrel, rabbit or other prey IS my idea of "Disneyland". The experiences I've had in the last 7 years were not even dreamed nor conceived of when I first dived down the rabbit hole. Never yet had a "bad" day doing it, even when the day yielded not a single kill but afforded me quiet & meditation. The camaraderie, connection & laughter has been a gift I'd never seen coming. I'm a fortunate man, as are you!
