Beyond the .25?

If most of everything you shoot are pest birds, rabbits, squirrels and other critters your /.22/.25 platforms are plenty already, but you kinda know that.

What I have found is that .30s don't hit that different from .25, but .25 hits noticeably harder than 22 and 177. So if you de decider a larger gun is in order, maybe go higher than 30 since you have .25 platforms.

id love to pest with a 357 lol .. it hits 'noticeably' a good notch higher than .25 .. its a matter of collateral damage of my own property and neighbors to .. pretty much why i stick to even lower power versions of 22 or 17 for the main grab guns ... 30 though .. from what ive seen its kindof a weeny round in a no mans land of nothing but compromise where its pretty hard hitting and pretty good shot count and pretty fair accuracy but where theres a better round really for any scenario ..

I skipped the.25 and went over the 30/35. I purchased the Impact MK2 .35 and got the .30 700mm barrel for it. It's shooting .30 JSB 50 grain around 1000 ish fps on the factory tune. Then an Impact compact .30 and the Urgan King .30 for the shot count.

The Impact MK2 .22 slug sniper is still my go-to gun or I'll take out the Impact compact .30 that has a .22 barrel kit on it "pellet only". As dizzums said, it's about collateral damage. It could be unsafe for the caliber you're shooting in the given area.

I have a .25 and a .30. Both have their place in my stable. The .30 I know for sure is going to take down that coyote at 80-100yds. The .25 might need a well placed head shot. It’s all about the forgiving nature as you go up in caliber. I can take out a Fox with my .22, but I may need to chose shot placement better than If I used my .25. Being as I’m not a super duper shot, the forgiving nature is my friend. That’s why I own multiple calibers for different things.

I'm in the same boat, I ordered a Maverick in .30 cal and when I received it I ordered a .25 barrel kit for it knowing it would be 3 months before I got the kit and I would be tired of .30 by then. Well I fell in love with the .30 but I just had to try the .25 and I know it will take down anything I ask it to but dang that .30 thumps the hell out of critters. Tomorrow the .30 barrel goes back on it and shooting the Hades to cut down on collateral damage
