Big Black Bird Down

Managed to catch a pair of crows out doing crow things this morning. Stoned him with an 18.1 grain FX diabolo pellet shot from a .22 Huben K1 from about 25-30 yards. I was able to thread the needle between some leaves and branches. The carcass beat some feathers to the ground. His buddy flapped out full tilt boogie. I was only able to get off the one shot.

Great shot!
My son has a yearly war with them. He has nesting great horned owls that are constantly attacked by the crows.

The owls seem to know who’s side he is on.
That's awesome!

Do "crow things" includ predation?
They are very smart and social creatures
They eat everything from road kill to food from your hands. Crows will often adopt a human who cares for them and bring them gifts. Many birds don’t like crows because they will even rob babies and eggs from a nest. Crows even hold funerals for their own kind. They also predate on starlings and pigeons

We've lost chicken chicks to them. They'll swoop in and carry them off. Being pecked apart and eaten by a bird would be a tough way to go.

Ravens will mourn shot crows too. 22 cal javelin slugs work well, as do 25 cal hades both around 45 ft lbs

I have a number of dairy farm permissions that I shoot pigeons and starlings at (mostly). I get some woodchucks at them too in the warmer weather. I generally leave crows alone as they tend to act as my "cleanup crew". ( they pick apart / carry off / eat the dead pigeons ) One of the property owners once asked my why I passed up on them - he was cool with that. As others have mentioned - they are very intelligent.

If theyre not being problems I will try and shoo them away before a shoot is needed. Rodents starlings and pigeons are on-sight tho. Raccoons just entered the menu since there's a gang rooting up lawns for grubs. I'm unsure if raccoons are like crows, where you cap one of them in front of their homies and they don't come back for a year.
