While the FX app stealing your soul may be small beans in the grand scheme of life, I think the point is that FX should have the morality not to collect the data. I can understand their desire to get stats on how their product is being used, so as to improve the chrony and/or app in the future. But considering users have already paid for the app, through the purchase of the chrony, they have no excuse to be sneaky about getting the data - they shouldn't be trying to recoup their investment as if they had given it all away for free. I would guess a large number of users would be willing to freely submit usage data for improvements - but FX should ASK.
And why on earth would someone go to a random website & plug in their social security number?
