Birth Place of American mfg! Fantastic!!!

The glory days that made America great, hopefully the global logistic problem with global politically turmoil will help greedy corporations understand that without manufacturing they are just a shell and will die. Many companies are starting to realize that after Tesla crushed everyone in profit and scale because they make as many parts in house here in the USA as possible, GM and ford use to make most parts in house but now they are nothing but car assemblers. everyone else are even worth, they are just relabelers of Chinese goods!!! In house manufacturing is precisely the reason FX crushed everyone in quality, volume and continuously improve their products at the same time.👍

How quickly we forget dreadful American manufacturing quality in the 70s, frequent strikes and ridiculous rules ("Don't touch that shovel!"). And how quickly our industries were rolled up and consolidated into monopolies who were incentivized to move off shore because our tax regs allowed them to keep international profits, etc. In the end almost everyone was greedy and guilty.

We are our own enemy.

I think quality has to do with scale. A small shop with the latest tech can produce state of the art parts and design from almost anywhere. Same with farming, large farms will out produce but a family farm that knows what they're doing can produce the finest produce in the world. That's who to support... craftspeople, artisans, Mom and Pops, family and employee owned businesses.

Believe it or not there are nice people in China (and Russia, even North Korea) who are highly skilled. We should embrace them rather than buying more Walmart junk.

We known for decades how to make things and how to figure things out in this country. That it is apparently cheaper to have it made in China and then shipped here is mind boggling. There’s no doubt that China and others are entirely capable of producing quality products but seeing so much junk from the same sources tells me that often, they just don’t bother.

They make stuff targeted to their customers. If Americans will buy the absolute cheapest junk possible then who’s at fault here? More likely the Americans who ignore where the profits go, ie the Waltons, Bezos, billionaires. They chose to ignore where their neighbors work or if the middle class is expanding or shrinking to experience the dopamine rush of finding a “bargain”.

No different than a junkie and a drug dealer relationship, both are to be avoided.

As it relates to Airguns, as discretionary income dries up so do hobbies.

Yeah, maybe Google Uighur and you will be better informed as to how China can produce goods so cheaply? Meanwhile, keep searching you have good instincts.

Before machine tools

I attended grade school at an elementary school that was within walking distance of Williamsburg. It was next to the Governor's Palace. We frequently visited one shop or another in Colonial Williamsburg on Fridays. Watched them building rifles on one such trip.
