I am contemplating buying another scope for Field Target shooting. When I was listening to a discussion between 2 Field Target shooters one of them was saying how the point of impact changed as temperatures change with the scope. I recall he had a chart to compensate for that. Knowing that black things get hotter than reflective silver things it made me wonder why there are so few silver or nickel colored scopes?
I am assuming that the POI’s from a silver scope would move less than the POI’s from a black scope, but I don’t know that for sure. I have spent some time googling, but haven’t found a definitive answer. Anyone have any data on that?
I see that the Falcon is offered in silver and that is about as much money as I would want to spend. I am interested in both WFTF and Hunter classes, so as I understand it I could use the ranging abilities of the scope and then shoot at 16x in the hunter class. There is a lot to absorb when it comes to understanding scopes. My latest nugget is that I read that in order to range effectively one needs 30 power - please let me know if that’s incorrect.
