Daystate Blackwolf Pricing. Help me with the math.

I also posted this on HAM for some extra points lol and figured I would post here as well. I'm a little confused with the pricing for the different barrel lengths and configurations. Can someone check my math because the math ain't mathing.

For the walnut tube version, the prices off AOA's website are the following:

- 17 inch version is $2,899.99
- 23 inch version is $2,999.99
- 28 inch version is $3,199.99

The cost difference between the 28" and 17" version is $300.00. 28"-17"=11". $300.00÷11"=$27.27 per inch. If you were to go from the 17" to the 23" version, the cost difference is $100.00. If you subtract 23"-17"=6". $100.00÷6"=$16.66 per inch. If the forend and tube cylinder are the same size, you would be only paying for the additional length for the barrel and shroud. I don't get it.

Now for the Grey Laminate tube version, the pricing is as follows:

- 17 inch version is $3,185.99
- 23 inch version is $3,199.99
- 28 inch version is $3,449.99

The cost difference between the 28" and 17" version is $264.00. 28"-17"=11". $264.00÷11"=$24.00 per inch. If you were to go from the 17" to the 23" version, the cost difference is $14.00. If you subtract 23"-17"=6". $14.00÷6"=$2.33 per inch. If the forend and tube cylinder are the same size, you would be only paying for the additional length of the barrel and shroud. I don't get it. Also, it looks like the Grey Laminate version is actually cheaper than the walnut version per inch.

Now for the chassis version, the pricing is as follows:

- 17 inch version is $3,294.99
- 23 inch version is $3,494.99
- 28 inch version is $3,699.99

The cost difference between the 28" and 17" version is $405.00. 28"-17"=11". $405.00÷11"=$36.81 per inch. If you were to go from the 17" to the 23" version, the cost difference is $200.00. If you subtract 23"-17"=6". $200.00÷6"=$33.33 per inch. If the forend and tube cylinder are the same size, you would be only paying for the additional length for the barrel and shroud. I don't get it. The chassis version is more expensive per inch then the other two versions.

The pricing just seems all over the place. Help me understand. I suck at math. Love your airguns but this is just way off. If you look at FX, their different barrel/shroud length versions seem more structured.

Ah that would make sense! I thought the non-sub12 all have the same valve though?!
Too early in finding out unless DS is willing to speak up ?
It is going to take a spell for these to get into the hands of Shooters /Testers / Reviewers / Airsmiths before the real facts start to become known.

Now this is what I want to hear. I might be ignorant to what goes on behind the scene and manufacturing process.
You know, had a similar discussion a few weeks ago in another thread. I guarantee you that the pricing is not based on cost plus margin, it’s based on “for how much can we sell at a volume that maximizes our profit”. Which is perfectly fine. That said, daystate is pushing prices out of my personal comfort zone so to whomever they’re gonna sell the 3.xk versions of the gun, it’ll not be me (well, likely not I should say). Anyway, I am sure that the price differences between the models is not based on “we need to make it $200 more cause it costs us $150 more”. Rather, it is “someone who’s already willing to put 2.3k on the table may be willing to put another 1k for more power and a nicer stock” and “someone who’s already paying $800 for a nicer stock will not mind a little more for XYZ”. Look at German car manufacturers. Base price of the car will double due to extras. And that’s where they make the real money. Has nothing to do with their costs, a lot of this stuff is simply activated via software but they’ll charge you 2k anyway. Same principle.

It sucks that this might be the reality. Now it makes me wonder what the difference in cost is in the UK and other European countries are for the FAC versions.

No idea. But got an example for you from a UK dealer:

Walnut and laminate stock of the tube version = same price. Bottle version 200 GBP more on lamine. Riddle me this, if the stock doesn’t matter for price on the tube version, why does it add 200 GBP on the bottle version?

So are you saying the laminate/bottle version cost 200 GBP more than the walnut/bottle version? If so, yeah, that doesn't make sense.

Are UK guns higher priced similar to how our American guns are? Simply cost more to make there? Not defending at all but more curious. Well BSA guns aren't what I'd call crazy in price. BRK I do think are, as a whole, over priced except the Sahara. Then again I'm finding lots of guns over priced anymore lol. Or just more than I'd spend now.
