I used huck bolts inserts to good results in metal so id have no issues with wood types like that screwed in one for a gun stock thing
 
When bolting things (bipod mounting brackets or sling studs) to the forearm I epoxy a stainless steel t-nut from the inside. The t-nut accepts a machine screw, spreads any force over a larger area and the epoxy binds the t-nut and stock together.

Just be sure to degrease the wood before gluing.

I carve out a relief and modify the head of the t-nut as required to fit.
