Howdy Fellow Field Target-eers!

The Boerne Field Target Club’s April 2023 Matches turned out to be again quite a day of airgunning! As a foreboding mist settled around us in the morning, we all quietly wondered if the Texas spring weather would show some mercy to Field Target. As the morning pressed on, the weather began to break and what started as low 60’s and near 100% humidity turned to 80’s and gusty breezes nearing 9 mph at their peak. We had 7 shooters in Hunter Class, Two Springers for Match 1, Match 2 saw 8 total shooters, half of which were 20 fpe Pistol. I would have shot pistol but had a date with a Marauder for Match 2. The eighth shooter in Match 2 contested WFTF class after a beautiful drive through Texas Hill Country. Driving from Arlington to shoot FT is a commitment so we really appreciate it! We also welcomed back John E., who returned for his 2nd match ever. Despite some technical setbacks, John shot extremely well. Great having you back. David T and Billy D are some sleeper marksmen. Very consistent shooting seen from both of these guys since they started FT. David T. has also taken to 20 fpe pistol quite easily. Might keep an eye on him during TexTreme! Springers were shot by Bill B. who posted a 50% hit rate and yours truly who did not post due to a “sliding scale” of shifting zeros as the rail adapter crept backwards with each shot. After 9 lanes I was sitting at 13 hits, skipping the last lane for safety reasons as the rail was slip sliding away like a Paul Simon ballad. Silly rabbit, stop pins are for kids. Still, springers and FT are no joke and highly recommended if you want a challenge. Cannot thank my predecessor, Robert D. enough for the encouragement to take on a springer. Can’t wait for next month!

Few quick-ish, ok not so quick, notes:
THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING PATIENT WITH ME!!! Adding on a second match, pistol and the very-soon benchrest comps has been amazing. But with anything new, some bumps and bruises come along with. Which is why after 2 times now I think we have figured out how to pull it off with the least amount of pain and have decided we need to only modify a few things.
One, The TexTreme Pistol class will only be shot in the second match. The reason being is to follow TexTreme rules, the yardages are given, however to allow yardages also means giving an advantage to a rifle shooter in the second match if they shot a pistol in the first match.
Two, we ask all persons to return to the sight-in range when their squad has finished for match results, prizes and post match meeting. Scorecard turn in will be there as well. This is because we need to ensure two things happen. The paddles get painted between matches in an efficient manner and thus there is ample time for sight in for match 2.
Lastly, since the paddles are going to be freshly painted for the second match, they are also going to be in the down position at the start of match 2. This is to prevent puddling on the bottom side of the paddle. Sorry but y’all gonna have to pull a few extra strings, but it beats pushing buttons i guess. All of the aforementioned will be reiterated at the next match announcement,

HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS!!!!!
The assistance from Pyramyd Air and PelletGauge has been amazingly helpful to get us to where we are. Clubs looking for some support should reach out and see what PA can do, great people and they love Field Target!
Jerry’s precision instruments at PelletGauge are an award shooters really look forward to winning. Check em out, .01” could make a difference!
We also have two new sponsors!!!
Tenacious Airguns Sales and Supply is now our sponsor and provides us with invaluable support and resources. The Tenacious e-shop is going live any day now, but they are selling precision airguns as we speak. TenaciousAirguns.com and their team tune and ship the finest competition ready precision airguns from right here in Texas!
Our newest sponsor, TexasFieldTarget.com, has put up a tin of 500 ct. FX pellets as the 1st place prize for all rifle matches through the summer! Booyah!

OK NOW ONTO THE SCORES DANGNABBIT!

The SUPPOSED Troyer is 32.13, but yours truly swapped two targets by accident. There were two targets ¼” in difference and I had put the smaller one to the farther distance. Not an illegal shot, but close enough to warrant a public note because it has to have had an effect on the course and caused some confusion to shooters who saw a smaller kz than the next closer target. I’m not aware of any rule that says it can’t be that way, just not the norm and definitely not what our course designer sent me. Bad MD, no doughnut.

Lane 7 was Standing, Lane 9 was Kneeling.

Sooo, without further adieu…

Scotty H. and his faithful HW1000 dominated the morning’s group with a 56/60, winning the 500 ct. tin of FX 13.4gr. pellets! Great shooting Scotty and thanks for the doughnuts!!

Second place was held by Derrick’s solid 53/60 , hardly shaken by a weak standing lane, Derrick cleared ½ the lanes in all. Derrick shot a Cricket II Tactical, showing to be an atypical but highly effective setup for FT.

Third place was a tie! Jim C. and David T. both posted very respectable 48’s. Nice shooting! Both Jim and David shot a RedWolf with those iconic laminate stocks.

Springer was won by Bill B.’s 30/60, he and his HW97 showed an impressive 30/60. That is the hardest FT class I think there is and maybe my new favorite for AAFTA rifle. Learned a lot shootng with you Bill, can’ wait for next match! I recorded a 13/50 with a Diana Air King, but wd before the last lane for scope issues.

MATCH 2
Winds kicked up some, humidity broke and the temps were more Texas like by match time. The best part about Boerne’s course for the second match is how much it changes with the sun. The shadowing intensifies and changes dramatically as the sun is overhead filters through the muddled canpoy of South Texas Live Oaks. The winds shifted too, cossing the line of fire and left to right, not the right to left more commonly seen in the morning matches.

Chuck must have dusted off some from the first match, he and his Daystate won Match 2 with a 54/60, and a 500 ct. tin of FX pellets. Great shootin’!

Bill B. with his beautiful Red Wolf solidified second place with a 43/60 while Billy D. was one shot back in third with his FX Crown.

1st place for 20 fpe pistol goes to Derrick Wall and his “Tenaciously Tuned” Brocock Commander in .20 cal. Derrick posted a 39/60, clearing 3 lanes! Great shooting Derrick!!

2nd Place Pistol was claimed with a .22 Brocock Atomic shot by Jim C., who scored a solid 35/60.

Pistol’s 3rd Place was claimed by David T., who was shooting a HW44 IN .177! A 29/60 with a .177 pistol is no small feat, especially nearing 20 fpe and out to 55 yards! I’ll repeat that, he shoots a 20fpe .177….Nice shootin’!!

Super stoked Scott C. took a few hours to ride down from Arlington on his moped. He was uncontested in his class and shot a 32 in WFTF. After balancing himself and a rifle on a scooter at 75 mph for a few hours I'm impressed he shot at all…LOL!!!!!!Always great to see you Scott!!! Really appreciate ya coming down!

Attached are a few pics and a breakdown of the FIRST rifle match. Sorry guys and gals, I can’t really shoot airguns and mirrorless cameras concurrently as well as I would like to, but I think its workable and should improve the pic count substantially each month.

All other breakdowns, charts, and high res pics will be posted on our website boernefieldtarget, com

ARLINGTON MATCH IS NEXT WEEKEND!

To be clear, I didn't ride a moped from Dallas to San Antonio with all of my FT gear. I was on a full blown motorcycle. It was a very pleasant ride with the exception of trying to dump the bike in the Lampasas whataburger parking lot while doing a cocky parking maneuver.

To be even more clear, I probably would ride a moped from Dallas to San Antonio if I owned a moped.

It was a motorcycle, but poetic justice took over and I could not resist a chance to poke fun. To any who don’t know scott, his towering frame makes him the veritable Larry Byrd of FT; the reason I made the joke about a moped/scooter is because this is the image in my head. When he told us he was on a motorcycle i immediately pictured a bear on a bike. Now picturing it trying to navigate a whataburger parking spot on a motorcycle makes it even better.

Thanks again for coming down Scott, always great to see you!!

I'm pretty sure I saw a "zing zing" bike in the parking lot . If you don't know what that is - look up some videos of Asia.

I have ridden from Dallas to san antone on motorcycles and pedal powered. There is a nice easy to follow series of county roads to get you all the way there. You didn't have the gun slung on your back did you? That wears you down fairly quickly.

Nah, it was strapped across the cases in the back. I was in a hurry going down there so I took 35 to Killeen, then went through Burnet the back way. I took the scenic route coming back. I strongly regret not stopping at the Italian Creamery in Blanco, but at the time I thought I could make it home before sundown. Turns out I couldn't, so I should have got some gelato.
