July 2024 Boerne TX Field Target Match Report
Hello fellow shooters! My many apologies for the tardy match report. Workplace emergencies required most of my attention since early Sunday morning. Being responsible for millions of gallons of water each week in south Texas has its drawbacks.
Saturday we were blessed with seven shooters with an honorable guest from Louisiana, Mike D! Glad to have you visit us Mike and hope your time in Boerne and at our club was memorable. I also apologize for any confusion as to the power level of this match. While it has been some time since we have shot long range FT, I will be sure to make sure the 20fpe notation is clearly made each time. Mike was prepared for 100 fpe but ended up shooting with Robert D. Another reason we are grateful to have a club rifle to offer! Thanks Derrick W.!
Yet again, some failing targets made it through testing. Sadly some of our targets are testing ok but still failing and will need repairs or replacement parts soon, just need to find time to get to them all. Recent rains in the dry Hill Country have also rapidly increased the mowing and trimming requirements as well, resulting in a less than stellar shot windows on some targets as I had to let some landscaping slide to make the match happen.
A bit of club news…
The airgun schedule at Boerne is changing!
Field Target will remain in its current slot on the morning of the 3rd Saturday of each month.
We will now be shooting Airgun Silhouette after Field Target.
N50 will be moving to the 2nd Saturday of the month along with Airgun Schutzen.
This is not only a logistics and safety decision but also one for the shooter's benefit, as it provides a more relaxed and enjoyable time before, during and after their respective matches.
Now enough banter and babble, lets get to the results!
Last month I asked if someone could please beat Scotty H. and his Marauder but it seems almost too much of a colossal feat. Scotty took home another Boerne Lego Minifig trophy with a 54/60. Clearing 6/10 lanes can do that to a man. Nice shooting! David T. was the gallant one, 4 shy of Scotty posting a 50/60. Have to say that David’s first two lanes hardly gained him any traction but clearing 5 of the remaining 8 was nothing short of great shooting. What a comeback David! Robert D.took 3rd place with a 49/60. Nearly clearing the standing lane, Robert might be a dangerous silhouette shooter perhaps? Speaking of silhouettes, Glen D. is a well seasoned silhouette shooter but in his first season of FT, posting a solid 47/60 for 4th and one shot in front of Jim C. Jim C cleared 4/6 lanes and took 5 for 6 on kneeling. Yours truly posted a 43 and our guest Mike D who shot with Robert’s rifle posted an impressive 41. FT is hard enough but shooting with an unknown rifle is even harder. Nice shooting Mike!!
Our next FT match is August 17th and will be followed by airgun silhouette!
Save the Date : October 19th and 20th!!!
