Bottle guns and bipods?

Questions for you bottle gun/bipod guys.....
  • Where do you put the bipod? Under-rail or bottle, or (heaven forbid) shroud ?
  • Have you seen any effects on impact points with varying bipod placement?
  • And with which bottle gun have you seen these results?
Thanks in advance.

(curious since I might be giving the Ghost a run for Xtreme FT at the winter matches, assuming the .22 barrel is worthy and I've only ever done tube guns from a bipod so no personal experience with bottle/bipod situation)

I've always been nervous about setting my rifle on a bipod at the bottle (although my rig does weigh over 12lb). It could be my own wonky thoughts, but I just feel like it stresses the threads at a weird angle. I ended up building an extension so that I can still have the advantage of being able to rest the gun further out on a bipod. It definitely helps mitigate some of the movement when shooting hunter style FT.

Al that being said, the ghost is so much lighter and shorter that I probably wouldn't worry about resting the bottle on a tripod.

On my redwolf 177 i put my styx under the bottle pull back against the stock. When i was shooting my maverick i had 2 short pic rails from amazon put together which left room for my finger over the end and pulled back against a sling mt. Trimed so it didn’t wobble on styx. Im going to use this for my impact for extreme. The rails were $11 each

Forgot to mention I don’t like bottle clamps because they too easily bend the aluminum bottle inside the carbon which i feel is bad

Great idea on extending the placement of a Bi-pods contact beyond stock and off the bottle.
Sadly by AAFTA rules what we're seeing is not legal in Hunter being the point where the notched area where yoke of a bi-pod rests, it has 2 stops being both in front and behind. We're only allowed 1

just a friendly FYI

I admit, I am a bottle clamper and also a 3d printer addict. When clamped by the bottle in the front and supported with rear mono pod, it makes a rock solid foundation. IMHO it does not put any undue pressure on the bottle threads since it's balanced. I bench rest differently from other BR shooters by adding some weight towards the front using magnets. Like those high end BR setups, I practically don't need to touch the gun after making my final aiming adjustments. Just a light trigger pull.

Most important is that the clamp should not touch the barrel! I feel that the barrel should always be free standing.. So a dual use barrel/bottle clamp should not be used. I'm sure that my BR setup would probably be banned in some competitions, states or countries. lol But it definitely helps with my 2-3
inch groups at 200 yards.

Oh yeah, my Rumpel F-class bipod helps a lot too!

Rod,

thats quite a rod you have there, wow! 👏🏼
Congrats to your 200y groups.
Yeah, you got no stability issues whatsoever. Your next level up seems to be a rail gun. 😄

Thanks Matthias,
Not shown is my Heritage Arms Cold Shot. When installed, I plan to shoot 600+ yards!

Now, YOU are the man, YOU are living the extreme long range dream!!!!

Please, DO report on your progress. I find extreme long range fascinatingly addictive!! 😊

Very, VERY cool!

I'm just contemplating how to get more cant into the mount of a Prophet (not for 600y, mind you, just maybe 150y).
And I already have a whole Scope Mounting Specs Table with adjustable mounts and rails with cant.... — all in preparation for that day when I will buy an extreme long range gun to follow in your footsteps (and those of Roachcreek/ Charlie, who was hitting coke cans at 400y+ a couple of decades ago).

This is a great time to be an airgunner...!! 😊

Beautiful work on the extension. Excellent color match. And outstanding looking complete rifle. 👍👍
