Bought a Benjamin Trail NP XL725

A new .25 caliber that really needs a shorter name than Crosman Benjamin Trail NP XL725. Nice toasty colored wood stock with the Cochise thumbhole I like. Blued steel barrel shroud gives it more of that magnum look. Ventilated butt pad is nicely capped as well. Checkered pistol grip feels good too. Came with a Centerpoint 3-9x40AO mildot scope that I understand has been discontinued. It hits hard, knocking the backstop over and breaking one of the chronograph tripod's legs. Have since replaced it. Need to build some tables for backstop and BR bags for shooting. I got one set of numbers before chaos put an end to testing. H&N field target trophy's in .25cal @ 19.91gr.

I just got a couple tins of H&N hornet pellets a week ago. I got these in .25cal @ 24.38gr(previous version, newest is 23.16gr) from Pyramid Air. And they weren't cheap. But should make a great pig pellet. Gonna test'em as soon as it stops being so cloudy and dark so I can film it. Will shoot at short range target through chronograph. Maybe 8 yards or so indoors? I also finally got my Trigger stick, which I think I'll use in place of the bench bags just to get used to using it.

Very well done post that I appreciate as I'm considering a .25 spring gun. A few comments. Take them with a grain of salt. If you're going to try those Hornets, might as well try JSB Kings. Yes, they'll have a slower speed, maybe more drop; but the BC you listed as 1.000 may improve with JSB Kings. All I can say is at long distances, my JSB's ALWAYS hit way higher than any other same weight / different brand pellet.
I have a chance to buy a tuned .25 Gamo Hunter Extreme Socom from a trusted fellow I talked with years ago. It's spitting the 19 or 20 grain pellets at 800 average. If it can even spit Kings at 750fps I'd be happy. I'd have to feel shot cycle with different weights, check accuracy, etc. I personally would use a .25 spring gun for 30 yards, MAYBE 50 maximum.
He also has an English tuned Patriot in .25. It has a front blade sight, area for rear sights, not sure if he has them yet or not as in picture it's scoped and has a gas ram. The Gamo is buttoned and a spring.
I've looked at the Benjamim 725's and am considering it. I'm not sure on prices of the 3 in question here. Anyway, I'll review your video and info and consider more. Also I think your spread will shrink once it breaks in. I'd slug that barrel and feel for tight spots. I had several Benjamin XL gas rams in .177 and .22 and I have to say I wasn't happy. That was a long time ago.

I didn't input the BC; that's what the Caldwell Chronograph APP puts in as default. Idk what the BC is off-hand? And I also tested the JSB King .,25's @ 24.39gr. Here's some readouts to ponder;
JSB King .25, 25.39gr;

H&N Hornet, .25cal, 24.38gr;

And H&N FTT, .25cal, 19.91gr;

Again, BC numbers are default.

Okay, time for some updates! I changed the B/C in the Chrono APP to .010. That will be a lot closer to actual. And here's a video where I tested the H&N hornet in 24.38gr in .25cal through the Trail NP XL725, and the hornet 16.2gr in the Striker 1000x;
 And then, when I and Kenny Kormendy of my air gun reviews swapped some of my older, 24.38gr hornets for his newer, lighter, 23.16gr hornets, I did this new video where I pit one against the other;
We both got them from PA too. I guess they were selling out the older, heavier ones first?

Good info,
how is the accuracy ?
last April my brother and I both purchased this rifle. Previous experience was with my early NP Crosman .22 and a NP2 version also in .22. Both of these rifles shoot awfully good .
After 11 different pellet types in these .25 rifles we have been left terribly disappointed in both the accuracy and consistency of these rifles. I wish Benjamin would take them back and refund our money.It has been very frustrating.
I have spoke with their tech people a few times and the make sure the screws are tight, is the scope good ? and try different pellets and just shoot more suggestions we are about done.
FWIW swapped scopes 5-6 times with known quality ones from my centerfires and other pellet rifles.

We however love the feel of the rifles and the damn hard hitting .25 pellet. However the shifting point of aim and poor groups have us reaching for the >22 versions.
Any suggestions on help with accuracy ???

Well how should it be held ? Honest question here not being a smart ass. We have tried many different holds and rests ands shot a few thousand pellets of many different pellet types.
Stacking at 30 yards ??? Be happy to hit a pop can at 30 yards with these with consistency.
I used to be a competitive long range rifle shooter and benchrest competitor after scoring expert many times in the Corps so have a rudimentary education of consistent hold and trigger control.

Does everyone who has this rifle stack them at 30 yards ?? did we just get por examples here??

I have this gun in 22 cal. I put in a new trigger which made it shoot a bit better but it is not a tack driver by any means. It is very heavy and hard to shoot offhand. If you bench rest it mine only shoots well if i rest it on my hand. I dont shoot it much anymore because it is frustrating. But it is powerful and accurate enough for hunting 25 yards.
