Never fired when inspected. My 500mm barrel has the same 'features'. I'm guessing they all do.

Yes, I’ve looked at all of my FX liners using a bore scope and they are not all that impressive are they . Of course when you compare them in cost to let’s say a match grade barrel there is no comparison in cost either.

The old “barrels and bullets” business may apply. 

Im of the opinion that for best accuracy air guns will have to go to a more power burner approach. A stiff threaded on barrel which is finely machined.

These interchangeable liner have advantages but consisted repeatable accuracy without POI change is not one of them.

I think we are seeing great strides in the development of slugs. Now we have to get the guns up to the same standard. I just don’t think barrels held in with set screws and O rings are going to give you the ultimate in accuracy. 

Anyone else thinking the same?

I've noticed this as well. Of course I didn't have a scope, so I wasn't sure if I was seeing things as the imperfections will lead-in a bit. 



I can get very close repeatable poi if I reinstall the battle the same way, but doesn't change that different pellets have widely different pois. Not to mention swapping to a longer barrel... I don't think I would change the barrel mounting design it in my Crown, though. 15" barrel and a 6lb un-scoped weight makes for very easy walks thru the woods.



But for a bench gun, or rested, a more precise, rigid mounting system would be preferred.



More precisely made rifling and the removal of chokes I think would lend to better precision across a wide range of projectiles and speeds as long as they fit the barrel correctly.

Yeah, for $415 I was expecting better. I can get a chambered and finished Pac-Nor barrel for less!



I convinced myself that what I was seeing in the 500mm barrel was indeed just leading. But the 600mm liner says otherwise... 

The lumps of lead, that are truly lead, that I see in the 500mm liner are probably propagated by the pitting.

My 20 year old .22 Air Arms has no leading. After countless pellets without cleaning!

The $50 Teslong Borescope has opened my eyes!

FX must have a borescope, so they have to know what they are selling...

It will be interesting to see what the future holds. Just a couple years ago we were happy with 1 inch groups at 50 yards. Now we’re shooting 150 plus. BIG difference requiring changes in the guns to get results. And you are right weight is the price to be paid. Or one of the prices. You can’t attach a heavy barrel to a lightly constructed receiver.

I’d like to hear what a power burner gun smith thinks about air guns and what they think could be done for absolute best accuracy.

Maybe it’s already out there with the Thomas guns and other limited production rigs

On a Ruger 10/22 (or clone) the barrel is held in place with a V-block that has 2 screws into the receiver. Some of those bull barrels are quite heavy and are still free floated. Something similar that interfaces with the shroud on an Impact might fix the problem.

Yep, and I've had the v blocks on Rugers split when used wit bull barrel. GRRRR! Had the receivers fitted with inserts and threaded and the barrels threaded to match. Accuracy was greatly improved.



I see no reason AG's of high quality could not be threaded. These are not low powered bb guns.

I just inspected my new 600mm slug liner. Flawless. So I know they can make a good one!

Guess I'm going to send the videos to FX and see if I can get a replacement pellet liner...

Darn right I do, it's time for more PCP's to be made to higher end firearms standards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's get away from the frailty thing that's so prevalent with PCP's.

Heck a low end $300 Savage 22rf is more trustworthy than a $2000 FX Impact.

I don't mind another 1.5 lbs of extra weight to have a thicker and more rigid barrel, and to have the option of having a top tier Bartlein or other competing brand barrel made for a PCP rifle.
