Breakdown the classes at competitions for me(please)

Long as your airgun and sights fit within the rules parameters of SOME division and class, you can shoot any KIND of airgun and sights you want.

I've shot a Sheridan multi-pump rifle In Hunter class, taking all but the most difficult shots offhand. It was fun, but I finished in the middle of the field.

And I converted a 1960s vintage Crosman (187) co2 rifle that originally sold for $21.95 into an HPA pistol for Hunter Pistol Class field target. That pistol (conversion) has three State and three National Champion titles to its credit so far; not only a good example of airgunsmithing possibilities, but the depths of depravity of one answering to such aliases as The Manic Compressive, Og, and That Damned Neanderthal!.

The Crosman 187 field target "pistol" before conversion (aka- $21.95 Crosman 187)-

Which begs the question, at what point does 'lively imagination' wander into 'he ain't zactly right' territory? Hard to say...

But we certainly have a few examples now!
Lovelyyyyyyy!!!🤗😍🤌🤌
Now to narrow it all down...
I can bring whatever and try really?(current inventory)😅
*I have NO crazy mods done or something special hidden inside of any of my slingers....so far...🥴😅
In the future ; I will have🤪🤙

It is a very difficult game. Don't make it more difficult on yourself.
I think I would try my Ruger or my Walther🤔 not super sure...I know my ruger break barrel is reliable. But I've only mayyybe 3 tins through my walther so far; and it's pcp....
Feel like the the ruger would be less gear.to haul on first trip to enjoy the experience more instead.of being so focused in me/my gear🤷‍♂️😅

Like CM Shooter said ... make things easy for yourself, FT is already a tough game.
and
McNasty ...practice

If you don't have space, I would practice shooting at 1/4" dots from 10-15 yards. Goal is to keep your group within 1/4 inch (trigger control and holding still).

If you have space, I would practice ranging with your scope beyond 35 yards (to 55 yards) and try to keep all your groupings under an inch.

Have fun.

"I can bring whatever and try really?"

Absolutely! ANY airgun that meets the AAFTA rules for whatever division and class you want to shoot.

However you should probably be made aware that the proportion of new FT shooters that never return for a second match relates DIRECTLY to the number that shoot single-digit scores in their first match. To paraphrase, FT is a lot more fun when you knock some targets over.

In fact I'll go out on a limb here and state how much fun relates directly to the score posted.

Mr. AirNGas

You still got that Sheridan?
Was there any mod done to the gun?
I assumed you had it Steroid by Mac 1?
I never had good luck with the clam shell scope mount...there's a risk of separating the barrel with that set up.
What kind of scope was that? were you able to range find with that scope or was it just guess-estimating the distance.

It would be soooo cool to shoot FT with a pumper like the Dragonfly. I just don't have the time, energy and skill to modify that rifle.

I would have fun even if I only hit 1 target😅🤷‍♂️🥴🤗🤪🤙

Wish I still had that 1963 Sheridan, but no. Yes, it was Stroided. I refinished the stock, attached a rubber butt-pad, and monkeyed the trigger myself.

Much of the reason for barrel separation on Sheridans (and similar ilk) is people putting too large and heavy scopes, and/or using the scope as a handle when pumping. But I used a 1960s-vintage, 7/8" tube, 3-6X Weaver scope, smaller and lighter than most folks mess with, and didn't use the scope as a handle when pumping.

Of course there was NO range finding ability whatsoever. So I'd guess the target range and think, that's about 35-40 yards; so six pumps. Or, that's over 50; so eight pumps. Since I had figured out the zero-range at every pump stroke from 4 to 8, my "system" worked better than you'd think. It was fun; but I'd grown accustomed to winning matches, so only used the Sheridan a couple times for funzies.

BB Pelletier witnessed my madness, and was impressed enough to post about it on his Pyramyd Air blog.

Assuming the Dragonfly is as easy pumping as purported, it would be MUCH easier to use in an FT match than a Steroid pumper. Heck JP, now you've got me jonesing for a D-fly!

Especially since it looks like I'm never gonna find the right Benjamin 342 like one I tested for an American Airgunner magazine article in the 80s. That rifle was also Steroided, had a nice peep sight, and impressed me a lot.

That's the right attitude, Bud!

I sometimes get too serious about FT and have to remind myself, "This is supposed to be FUN". But when I shoot well...

Well, suffice to say, I miss sex a lot less!😳

Too much information?🤮

:ROFLMAO:
I'm the same way with hunting; but when flustered I always remember my grandpa's words; even if we go home empty handed; it was still fun🎩🤙
