Tuning Breaking FWB124

I pulled out my FWB 124 today. New just before Christmas I haven’t had more than 50 rounds through it. Today I doubled that.
I found breaking the barrel was really hard to break. Hard on shoulder. I have a HW80 and a HW98 and I don’t have this problem. I also have an HW 90 which I avoid like the bubonic plague, just nasty.

Is there any secret to making it easier to break?

The 124's I've shot were fairly easy to break open. It's a ball detent in the breach block and a small wedge on the receiver. I'd make sure the ball detent is moving freely. Could be the spring behind the ball bearing is gummed up. If the ball and wedge are "dry" I'd put a dab a grease on those. (moly paste would be even better)

They usually don't lock up tight enough and the barrel practically flops open. 

Your detent wedge could have worked loose from the end of the receiver. 

Or as mentioned, it may just have some caked up goo in the ball mechanism.

Clean out the detent with some gun cleaner, flush with some light oil then add a dab of moly grease. Also clean and lube the hunge points on each side of the breech block, can be cleaned and oiles but best to take apart and grease both sides. Adjust tension when reassembling.

I have a few Break barrels and this is the only one that’s really hard to break. Now I have been using it a little bit more it’s easier but still hard to get that initial break. I’ll give it a cleaning and greasing. Thanks Crow

Mine isn't hard to break at all. On many springs you have to rap the muzzle end to break open the action. I can just pull the action open on my 124 with no problem.
