Brocock/BRK BRK Ghost .22 how many shots

Took my ghost out for the first time and thought I would get more shots out of it before I had to fill again. I didn’t see from skimming how many shots people were getting on average.

This is my first PCP rifle so I am new to these guns so really not sure what to expect

Gun is BRK Ghost .22 plus. Reg is set to 150 and had the turn wheel on the back set to max. Shooting JSB 18.3gr and was getting about 50 shots with the gun filled to about 3300 psi. After the 50 shots the shots were really dropping. I only got about another 20 shots before the reg was in the yellow and the gun was only shooting about 100 psi.

Is this normal, what I should be expecting?

Also on each shot it weeks like a lot of air coming out the side hole on the gun, I assume this is supposed to be? Again first time with a PCP gun

Thank you

Chad

This is right @ 50fpe (25.4 @ 940fps)
480cc bottle

Thanks for all the replies. I did not chrono yesterday just to it to the range to zero in the scope and have fun with it. I will do some chrono today to see. Will play around with the wheel as well to see how many more shots I can get and keep accuracy

To be honest, was really hoping to get at least 100 shots from it but oh well.

Thank you
Chad

Try turning down the power wheel for the 18's and target 860 FPS. Work up from there until they perform.

Follow EDventures advice and you might get to to your 100shots/fill desires.

With the 150 bar reg pressure you mention, and max hammer tension, you're likely shooting the 18.1s way too fast, and wasting air in the process.

I cannot find my mic for my LabRadar so I have to order another one to test for speed.

I did keep reg at 150 and set back wheel to min and got 102 shots from 240 bar to about 130.

I did remove the bottle and the gun just let all the air out so I do not think that is supposed to happen. Thoughts on that one?
When you shoot under the pressure of regulator you are shooting unregulated.

Some rifles like Sidewinder shouldn't be shot under the pressure of the regulator.

That happens on my Ghost if the tank pressure is below reg pressure. No worries!

Lower the reg down if your only shooting pellets
Yes, that is what I was doing when I took the bottle off but got kind of worried about the air coming out.

I dropped the reg down to 120 and am shooting on min on the wheel. I am getting just about 9 mags or 100 shots going from 250 bar to 120 bar with the 18.3gr JBA's.

With thanksgiving this week, probably will not get the Lab radar mic until weekend or next week depending on how busy the shops are now. So will not have any true numbers until the following weekend.

I can say that dropping the reg to 120 and shooting the wheel on minimum, the gun is stupid accurate to the point I had to take the mag out to make sure pellets were coming out and not just air, since the rounds were going in the same hole.

In my experience, pellets shoot pinpoint accurate when the hammer spring tension allows the hammer to strike the valve and keep it open UNTIL the pellet completely exits from the muzzle—NOT close while the pellet is still on its way out of it. The plenum could be at any pressure, even as low as 55 BAR (e.g., for low-power shooting) provided what I’ve said above is attained.

In your case, your pellets shooting accurately at 120 BAR might very well be the correct plenum pressure that permits your Ghost’s valve to be struck and kept open long enough until complete pellet egress.

Any regulated PCP can achieve a ton of shots—as most manufacturers advertise—through the acceptance of a little bit of valve lock; however, at that point, the hammer spring tension and plenum pressure may not be balanced and shots are less consistent. So, when a manufacturer claims that its gun can provide “tons” of shots, they’re not necessarily “accurate“ shots.

What's your proxy for assuming the valve is open or closed when the pellet exits the barrel?
