BRK Ghost Review

Stayed up late and got the footage cleaned up.

Skip this one completely if you're a critter lover. While some might consider them cute, these dudes are serious pests for the farmers. I've yet to be turned down when asking permission to shoot them on various properties. All up and down the little farming community where I live I've got people that have given me permission. Many of them I initiated, but some of them actually reached out to me, friend of a friend, etc.

Anyway, the wind was pretty stout this day. In the past, windy days like this would not have been a day I attempted getting after the pdogs, but these slugs make it not only possible, but quite successful.

Most shots felt like they were in the 70-125 yard range. What I included in the video are the cleanest kills from about 2hrs of shooting. I left in some misses. I also left in some hail mary's in the 215-220 yard range. Although even those hail mary's were just this close from connecting. The farthest obvious hit was at 169 yards, towards the end of the video, it was almost a double. There's also a solid 165 yard shot (death dance). The hold off for the wind was pretty evident on some of these, even with a 0.09-0.1BC slug.

If you're just joining in, these are the .20/18.9grain NSA slugs at 910fps from the Ghost. That makes it just shy of 35fpe.

As noted a few posts back, even on the far shots these slugs zip right through the prairie dogs. With a good clean vitals shot they often run 20 or so feet and then flop over dead. I left a couple of those in the video too.

It's also interesting to watch the dust splash after one of these slugs goes through a dog. They often change directions quite drastically, deflection off spine/skull is what I figure.

Anyway, just an example of what this Ghost is capable of when a slug/barrel jives really well. And also an example of how less is often more, specifically when it comes to fpe from airguns. I have a 50-52fpe airgun and rarely shoot it. The Ghost and the .20 NSA slugs are my long range airgun solution. I don't want nor need any more power than this.

Nice video @Franklink

I don't think people realize just how compact the Carbine config of the Ghost is, partly b/c there's so few out in the wild and mostly b/c Soren and I haven't really focused on that aspect much.

So I just took some photos.

The first one here is the .177/17 inch barrel next to the .22/23inch.

The last one is with a 14mmx1mm adaptor to 1/2x20 and a short little Hugget Atom moderator. OAL
Is just about 27.5inchs. Aesthetics could be cleaned up by removing the rear shroud cap if this wasn't just for visualization purposes.

In summary, the Ghost Carbine is COMPACT.
What brand is you underrail like to get one for my ghost compact? thanks

Hello, I experience some POI drop after 25 a 30 shots. Regulator set at 120 bar and still 160 bar in the botlle. I have the Ghost HP .22. Powerwheel at minimum. Anybody know a solution? What is the factory power setting for the ghost.22 HP ???
Thanks...

I think you need some chronograph data for your shot string. IE record the fps from shots 1-35 or so to see if the fps is dropping around 25-30 shots.

I played with a .22 HP and it came out of the box new with a reg pressure of 160bar. Dunno if they're all set for that, but that particular one was 160bar.

Def. higher than necessary - but i notice AOA / Daystate / Brococks all seem set high at the factory QA tune point

Yeah, a tad high. I fiddled with it and could still get the 960fps from the .22 MRDs from 150 bar so ran it that way. That was the goal, as it seemed to shoot the best at 960 with the 160 bar reg pressure.

I'd like to add that extended air filler fitting to my Ghost where would I source that? I've added the M-Loc Arca forend and it would be nice to have a little extra room? Thanks!

That's the one I use and have been pretty happy with it.

My ghost started to puff on my cheek the other day and ES and SD tripled. Replaced breech oring first, still puffing. Replaced the orings around the transfer port, still puffing. Lastly replaced the two orings on the valve. No more puff - I think… but I am still feeling… something. Anybody feeling the hammer strike as a “sort of” puff on their check or am I crazy?

Yep, slight little puff on every shot I've ever taken with my Ghost, all 17,000 of them.

One of the orings inside the barrel channel was missing when I got it new and the puff was substantial. There's an oring in the frame on either side of the transfer port. If it's missing one of them you'll get a heck of a puff.

Great, thanks!!! I never paid attention to it/felt it too much until now when it really started to puff on the cheek, which was the big oring on the valve I think (looked pretty beaten up when I replaced it). I replaced both orings around the TP before the valve ones going from easy to more work to do and probably paid more attention to the puffing after all that. And now I can’t “unfeel” it :)

If your FPS is now the same, post Oring replacement as it was back before the puff got really noticable you should be all good (back to your baseline).

A bit of a puff seems to be normal. Excessive puff could sure indicate a problem though. Personally I think I'd separate normal puff from problem puff by determine how much fps/power you're missing (or not missing). Which goes back to my recommendation to compare current fps to a pre-existing baseline that you hopefully have. Same settings and projectile should give same fps, when all the orings are present and in good shape..

That’s the funny thing, the problem puff didn’t really cost me fps. Just tripled ES and SD. Well, and probably average fps down as well. Now back to normal, it’s just that now I pay attention to/noticed the normal puff and wasn’t sure whether that’s normal or not since I never noticed it/recorded it as “ah, a puff” :)

It's good to have a baseline for fps, ES, and to a lesser extent, SD. I don't like not being able to trust a gun, so every time I put some shots over the Chrono and get the same fps as I know it should be doing, happy guy. There's a confidence boost/affirmation, by being able to confirm that all is well.

PRS now sells a 3” picittiny to UIT thingamajig - Pretty saweeet. I could make a full time job out of finding and buying dodads for my ghosts
