N/A BRK Ghost VS FX Impact MKIII - both are terrific!

Over the last two months I added to my collection in .22 a BRK Ghost and an Impact MKIII. Both have the 600mm barrel. Both came from The Pellet Shop where I received exemplary service before and after the purchase. Bin talked me through my tuning questions and I am very pleased with their performance.

Shooting the JSB Jumbo Monster Redesigned 25.4 Gr pellets, both are now slinging them within 5 fps of each other at +/- 960. Both show extreme consistency with an SD of 2 fps across 20 shot strings. Both will group 10 shots within an inch at 84 yards and literally stack pellets on top of each other at 50 yards.

I find the FX to be much smoother In the cocking cycle and to have a better trigger. I also feel the FX is more adaptable to about any airgun situation. The larger capacity magazine is nice, too.

The Ghost just feels more solid in the construction and doesn’t seem to be as maintenance finicky, but time will tell. It sure is easy to adjust the velocity up and down. The magazine can’t get any easier to load, insert, or remove.

Bottom line - both great rifles.

I also appreciate your willingness to see the pros and cons. With so much of the blind brand loyalty that exists, this is refreshing, especially since its comparing an impact and the Ghost. The Ghost seems to elicit the most rabid of responses from the Impact diehards. But again, thank you for evaluating both with an open mind and an understanding that pros and cons exist in everything.

The Ghost trigger can be greatly improved, if you choose to go down that road.

Thanks guys. As a little follow-up and regarding the trigger, it does break very clean and crisp. It is very similar to my Brocock Commander XR in feel. They are both very heavy compared to my "premium" air rifles. I tried to adjust out the Commander, but every time I started to get even close to my weight preference, then the gun wouldn't cock.

I discussed this with Jared Clark about a week ago. He informed me that for about $150 and shipping fees they could modify the Ghost trigger and make it better, but that it wouldn't ever compare to what I am used to on my Daystate, RAW, and FX rifles. I looked at the on-line posts about modifying the Ghost trigger, and even though I am pretty capable and do excellent springer tuning work, I just don't think I want to tackle all of the precision steps I observed. I can and have adapted well to these two triggers as is.

I don't want to give the wrong impression. The trigger isn't bad, it functions very well and as previously stated it breaks very clean. It is just much heavier than I am use to.

Thanks again for your interest and taking the time to post a reply.

I’ve got an m3 and just received a ghost. I got my ghost through Derrick, he did the trigger and it is very close to my impact that I setup. I feel the ghost is a more solid build and much less finicky. My biggest complaint with the ghost is safety location. The impact has been good(mines a 357)setup at 170fpe right now. I love the larger mag and parts availability for the impact. Both are really good in my eyes, the ghost will be for pellets(25cal for now). The impact will be for slugs in 22cal and 357.

Great write up ! I wonder how an AirMaks KRAiTt stacks up beside those two ? When the spare change builds up again ,one of those three needs to come to my place . I appreciate my Katran Long & it's great trigger.

The safety location on the ghost was one thing that I noticed when handling one in the store. I hated how it was covered by the cocking lever. However it was an easy and relatively inexpensive fix by putting the biathlon cocking handle onto it. That design makes for easy access to the safety.

Good write up...I had an MKII Impact in 30 cal and really liked it, but POI shifts were extreme if I bumped the rifle while hunting or at Extreme Field Target matches. I don't get that with the 👻....The trigger on the Impact was better and easier to adjust, but after reading and talking to Derrick I was able to do a trigger job on the ghost and it's pretty nice now.

I like the safety on the 👻 For me it's very easy to use. I put my cocking lever on the left side....I like it on the left side that way my right hand (Strong hand) is always on the grip controlling the rifle....Hunting, Field Target, Bench shooting, never an issue.

The wife changed her cocking lever on her 👻 to the left....

Looks like I’ll move the lever over…. Sometimes the simplest solutions are overlooked. I like the left hand cocking on my wife’s Uragan and the r5m I sold.
