Brocock contour regulator add

Ive got the contour elite in 177 I'm going to add a huma reg to it will be here later this week.i did some chrony testing and i adjusted the hammer setting for the most power i could get,at the 85bar reading on the gauge i was getting 817 fps shooting jsb 8.44 pellets,so im going to try 85bar on the regulator.i have a question on reg settings, is it better to have lower setting and a bigger puff of air or higher reg setting and a smaller puff of air which one would give a higher shot count.

high pressure + small puff = higher efficiency. You gotta find a balance. Also just because you hit 817 fps at 85 bar unregulated doesn't mean you will regulated due to plenum space, you may, you may not, all depends. Ideally a .177's pressure range would be between 95-115 bar IMHO. At the end of the day you just want your ideal velocity (say 820 fps) to be 5% lower than your peak velocity for best efficiency/tune. So you'd want your peak velocity to be 860~ fps and then you'd reduce the hammer energy/strike until you were 5% below that.

Good luck and I hope the above helps and is an easy guide for you to tune with :)

ps: plenum space is the volume between your regulator and valve throat. Ideally this volume should be between 1/2 CC per FPE to 1 CC per FPE. The closer to 1 cc per fpe you are the lower you can have your set point. This is due to pressure drop during the shot cycle which lowers the average pressure across the valve seat. A 9 cc plenum making 18 FPE may drop 400 psi during the shot cycle regulated at 1700 psi (example not raw data) which would make an average of 1500 psi at the valve seat. Where as a plenum twice its size at 18 cc's would only drop 200 psi making for an average pressure at the valve seat of 1600 psi. As you can see the 1/2 cc per FPE would require a set point of 1800 psi to make the same power as the bigger plenum would at 1700 psi.
