.177 Brocock Ranger XR
It is basically a Brocock Atomic with a (small) 0 db moderator, picatinny rails all over it, and a folding AR style stock.
I was in the market for a new "low power" truck gun and I have to thank my buddy Mike B. (Team Centercut) and the good folks at AoA for all their help getting this to me. While it was on the way, I watched Steve's(AEAC youtube channel) video on the .22 Brocock Atomic again, so I would be familiar with how the gun works. Upon arrival, I ran 3 Patchworms thru it(pretty clean from factory), mounted a scope and bipod, put the FX Chrony on it, and started shooting JSB 8.44g. The .177 magazine is the new "Daystate style"(front flip door) magazine and holds 13 pellets. The short 0 db does a descent job, but the longer one(or a DonnyFL Tanto, or Huggett Astille, or...) makes it REALLY quiet.
It was shooting the 8.4g @ 758 fps, so I tightened on the hammerspring to bring it up to almost 800 fps, which is about all this small sub 12 ft lb .177 was designed to do. I got 3 mags(39 shots) before I had to refill. They include a male threaded probe, as well as, a barrel endcap(in case you don't want to use the moderator)with the gun.
The trigger was pulling heavy(2.5 lbs) with a long 1st stage out of the box, so I adjusted the creep out of the 1st stage and the break to 1.5 lbs.
I tried JSB Heavy 10.34g which did well out to about 30-40 yards where I could see them start spiraling and getting blown by wind. JSB 13.4g Monsters(and RDs) were even worse. H&N Barracuda Match and Extremes showed promise, but I don't have too many of those(I will get more and revist later). The best results of what I tried were the JSB 8.4g:
PROS(so far):
Wellmade- solid, plenty of sturdy pic rails, no flexing, nice mag, buttery smooth action, AR accessory(grip, stock, etc.. ready)
Very light and very compact
Accurate(enough for my pesting/plinking needs anyway)
Quiet(especially with bigger moderator)
CONS-
The way you have to fold the collapsible stock- OH MY FRIGGIN GOD!!!! You have to twist it(like a doorknob) WHILE lifting up on the stock and pushing down on the receiver. If you don't do it just right, it binds. The same way in reverse to unfold it(it locks in the folded position). Why can't I just push a button??
Low power, low shot count- Well, it isn't supposed to be a powerhouse slug-shooter with a 580cc bottle, SO I guess that's not REALLY a CON. It is excellent for what it is designed to be.
