Brocock Ranger XR - no longer a virgin

Yesterday Spector the 3rd arrived And today I decided with perfect weather see if it can actually live up to the hype.

Before heading out I mounted the Brocock Ranger XR 22 cal with a Vector Optics Veryon 4x16 IR with eagle Vision rings, and the Atlas bipod.0dB supplied moderator the Tatsu rubbed and the rti hush won’t fit (For the spec geeks) (cleaned barrel too)

I arrived around noon and decided to do the sight in first because this minor thing helps your pellet hit its target.

I decided on Hades to give them a try and they are one of my favorite pellets. The gun came shooting hades at 710 fps so around 18 fpe. I sighted in at initially 25 yards.

While playing with targets I see I have a shot on a staling in perched on a fence post in the paddock. I tried to find an angle I could use the bipod from, no so I did a 35 yard freehand. Whack, well Spector III was deflowered by a starling and any day you kill a starling is a good day.

I did a lunch pause with a ham and cheese sandwich and real carrots

I spent a total of 4 hours at the permission and did some w plowing and the sparrows see don’t reflect the number which is more like 10, I was too lazy to go retrieve them in the thick brush or manure piles, sorry Sadly only one starling.

@Blackpaw, what hype? My Atomic XR has “hyped” over 300 pest birds since March. The Ranger XR/Atomic XR are proven platforms at this point. So? Are you satisfied? Did the Ranger XR perform to your expectations today? Sure looks like it got the job done. Good shooting on your part.

Well, 3 magazines, no....2 plus 3 shots before I get drop off. I don't think the Ranger has the same shot count of the Atomic. It is a solid platform with a nitch scope.

Yours is shooting a little hotter than my Atomic, which is sending the CPHPs at 725 fps avg.

Blackpaw, Looks like you're enjoying your Ranger as well... I'm lovin' mine.

My Ranger, outta the box is sending 15.89 Jumbos at about 710fps and does so a bit flatter than the Hades, so I have stuck with the Jumbos.

I have played around a bit with some H&N's and a couple others I have on hand from days past... And the crazy thing is, the lil' rifle isn't too pickiy on what it "tosses" at da critters. Another reason how he got his name.

So have fun with your Ranger... A polite thing to say even though I see you already are.

I tried the H&N 18s at 30 and they went every where. Went back to the hades at 50 yards getting quarter sized groups. I am probably going to tweak the hammer spring a tad to see if I can flatten out the Standard deviation and extreme spread. I will post data in the other area later.

Yes, but this is a 22 and the Uragan is 177, the Uragan is happy at the 17 fpe where it is right now. Plus it is going on the chopping block, I want the Brocock Ghost Carbine in 177

That Ghost has got its hooks in you and rightly so… It is an exciting PCP, and because its versatile, you can always change the calibers to suit your needs.

The Ghost looks nice actually. Never had a problem with my old trusty Brocock in 177. Smacked a lot of critters with it.

Have you already ordered a Ghost? Or is it still a thought?

@deadaim the Ranger is packing the same punch as the Uragan, well within a 1 FPE, but that extra 6 grains and size down range makes a difference.

@Blackpaw, so the Ranger XR has immediately become your main pester? And considering your Uragan is going up for sale. Quite the testament to the Ranger XR from you. 50-55 pump strokes gets me to 250 BAR and 33 shots from my Atomic XR. The Ranger/Atomic XRs are just unreal PCPs in actual use.

Sir for the conditions I am in currently, yes, the ranger is well suited. If I was back in Idaho where I had more targets and distances then maybe something like the Ghost or Prophet II would be it. Like you said it is a 50 yardish tool.

@Ezana4CE I haven't yet got the battery, but I should take one out of the Athlon I have sitting on a shelf and try it out. Again today, at the grocery story and forgot to get the battery. Damn hunger blinds me from what really matters.

I have both the concept and the atomic love them both, concept for field target,and the atomic for pesting bug buster ,UTG bipod,put on an adjustable cheek piece butt,luth ar makes a nice one, tried the atomic as the pistol pretty awesome with the bipod, it tuned easy and is super accurate
