Brocock/BRK Brocock Sniper XR, general thoughts

Anyone here owned one of the Brocock Sniper XR's ?
I did a search, but didn't find answers to my question.

Looking for your overall feelings of the gun. Actual owners thoughts. Not what I can read myself.

Anyway, my thought is to do the..."opposite"...as many do with pistols. Rather than add a full length stock to a pistol, I'm thinking of cutting the barrel to the same end length as the 300cc cylinder.
Not attempting to try to make it into a "bullpup". just making a...short rifle. And yes, I understand that overall power will drop with the short barrel.

Thanks for your thoughts (on the gun...or...my hairbrained thought !).

I owned a Bantam Sniper HR, the predecessor to the Sniper XR. It was and is still an awesome platform. What you are describing is already achieved in the Pathfinder XR. Only difference is the folding stock. As you can see, without the moderator the bottle and shroud are almost equal at the front of the gun.

Bought one 2 years ago? It's so accurate it's crazy. If I used a FFP scope it would be even easier to shoot(I guess I like a challenge, lol).
I was surprised by how heavy it is. That stock is a tank and very wide feeling(I know it has a bottle but it's still kind of a cow). And the way the grip expands at the bottom is uncomfortable to me.
Knowing what I know now, I would get the Pathfinder, especially if it's lighter. AFAIK, they are the same gun but different wrapper and barrel length. And the folding stock of the Pathfinder would make it way easier to transport.
I think if you cut it down as much as your thinking about the weight balance will be too much to the rear. I personally prefer a gun that tips forward than rearward, but that's just me.
Otherwise you can't really go wrong with a Sniper XR.
It's so good, it almost bores me.

Taking off the choke might prove interesting if you were into slugs(probably have to stick with lighter ones but....).

My personal thoughts based on actual ownership (still have some) of the Sniper XR in calibers from .177-.25, standard and high power, shorter ones like the Pathfinder and the Sahara, etc.

I bought my first Sniper XR back in 2020 thinking that it might be the "one gun for many uses" item I was looking for. It might be just that, but a personality flaw of mine doesn't allow me to accept that such a gun exists - and I gotta just keep chasin' the dragon...

Overall I really like the Sniper XR. They are comfortable to shoot both off hand and off the bench. I find them to be generally accurate and robust. Accuracy in my mind is to the level of 'Hunting +'. More accurate than a hunter (which to me allows head shots on ground squirrels out to ~50 yards), but not as accurate as something like a Daystate or RAW HM1000x for precision target work. Could be more the shooter than the gun, but that's what I've found.

I also have found over multiple Sniper XR's that things like the triggers can be real inconsistent across different guns. Some triggers are great out of the box. Some can be made really good by just twisting a few hex screws. Others I just can't get to be as good, and would likely need polishing of trigger components (which I don't feel I have the skill or knowledge to do). So it is not that the Sniper XR triggers aren't good, it is just that (as I compare them to other guns) they differ from gun-to-gun more than I would like.

Finally, power. I'm definitely not power mad - pretty much the opposite. I only shoot pellets and for my uses I like my muzzle velocities under 900 fps in most instances, mostly around 880. I generally don't adjust the regulators on Daystates and Brococks (and some other brands) as I have found that from the factory they have been adjusted to an 'optimal' point of power and shot-count. While I find the Sniper XR magnum configurations to have much more than enough power, I find the standard power guns to be right at or a little below what I normally want in a tune. Not that any of them are lacking (maybe the Sahara...), but it almost seems like they are maxxed out and might not have much more to give power-wise. For my uses that is generally fine, but for those who like a little more power you may run out of tuning room.

So my general feelings on the Sniper XR's are positive. For a gun at its price-point, I think that there should be a little better consistency from one gun to the next. And the standard models may lack power tuning potential - especially if you end up chopping the barrel for your project.

Don't want a foldable stock. Then I just have a pistol with a "shoulder stock". Full, actual stock required.
I actually thought of doing what you suggest. But I'd assume that I'd have a harder time finding "just" a full stock, than buying the full gun, and cutting the barrel.
Unless you have one for sale.........

Mike, you may be able to pick up a used stock for sale. Understood on the folding part. The folding knuckle can be removed and the stock becomes fixed… Extendable only… The Pathfinder is definitely “not” a pistol, whatever the stock choice.

Yeah...maybe, sorta of.

It's not much different than the XR.
No folding stock parts here.

Just do it; what could go wrong? And if something does, get another barrel,, or just get the shorter barrel,I think that is possible, right?

Thanks much for the dimensions on the Pathfinder barrel, much appreciated.
Not exactly sure how to work the barrel, shroud, and some sort of add-on muffler, but this gives me a good reference.

And yeah, I guess it's worth doing a search for a full sized stock before buying the full Sniper XR rifle. Although, right now, the XR with the 300cc cylinder is pretty cheap!
