Brocock Sniper XR trigger job

L.Leon, That is some mighty fine chootin!

What did you do to lighten your trigger and do you think the results contributed to better or more consistent accuracy?

I just turned the rear most screw clockwise until the gun would cock anymore. Then back until I could safely cock the bolt. Nothing on the scale of what you did. I have been getting as good accuracy before, but do feel the trigger pull is much lighter and will definitely make a difference going forward. At the end of the evening I decided to send some AAs 16s at 50 yards. First two groups I still had my forty yard zero, group 1 is easily 1/4”. I fell apart on group 2, poor technique. I dialed 1 MOA of elevation for groups 3 and 4. All groups but #2 covered by a dime. As you already know the gun shoots good.

I measured the trigger pull weight out of the box then proceeded to adjust like you did. I could get the trigger to break with less travel but it made no difference in pull weight on my rifle. That rear most screw (D) controls the distance that the sear and trigger bar surfaces engage with each other. It may have a different feel but it may not have actually lightened the pull any. AOA has a video that describes adjusting these triggers and the technician eludes that to the fact that none of these adjustments really lighten the pull much. If any.

It certainly stands to reason that it would get better over thousands of uses as the mating surfaces wear in and burnish each other. I see similar improvements on my powder burners. I have one pistol with close to 200K through it and it’s trigger is silky smooth, though it’s far from stock, wear certainly has improved it. Springs also wear and sag as well.

BTW, is that your dog in your avatar? It certainly is a cute litter bugger.

Just tuned my Sniper XR trigger this past weekend and tweaked it yesterday.

Just tuning back and forth with the first and second stage I was able to go from the factory 2.5 pound pull to a consistent 1.5 pound pull.

I shot 1000 PRS with a stock savage accu trigger at a little over a pound and the Brocock is right in there. Not quite as nice but very passable.

Took some work but I ended with a nice smooth first stage take up, a hard wall, and a clean break second stage.

It’s a balancing act between the 1st and 2nd stages for sure, and the point at which the trigger pull lightens on the second stage is indeed a very small adjustment. To far past the ideal point and the trigger begins to get heavier again. I was also having trouble with the second stage having a little creep to it. It was like I could get the light pull with a little creep or no creep and a heavier pull. Also, if you take out too much of the first stage the trigger would again get heavier. Like I said, balancing act.

After lots of tinny tiny adjustments I finally got it dialed in.

Also had to put some blue loctite on the safety screw once I got that adjusted. It kept working it self out. I was surprised how sensitive the safety adjustment was. Again there was a sweet spot. To far one direction or the other and the safety would stop working.
