BSA Scorpion — Is this normal?

I just received this rifle and there are a good bit of scratches (refurb.), but there are two things that worry me. First of all, the bolt touches the stock when you put it down:

...and the scope rings look like this:

They are 11mm dovetail mounts.

If that is one of the refurbs at the price Field Supply had them for, I suspect you are going to like it. Those BSA barrels are tack drivers and that gun hits a good balance of size. Only downsides are noise and shot count. If you know it works and won't need to return it, I wouldn't be afraid to file a groove in the stock to allow clearance for the bolt.

I will NOT return this gun in a million years! I bought it for $430 (Ransony) which I think is a great price for such a nice gun! If this gun has a good barrel and does not leak, I think this will be a permanent member of my collection. I love the ergonomics, the bluing is beautiful, and the bolt action pleasantly surprised me. It’s not super smooth though and feels dry—should I put some silcone one grease or oil on it? Anyway, the trigger is fantastic. I don’t know if the previous owner turned it or not, but whatever the case the first stage is very light and the second stage is not too heavy or light and very crisp. I can’t wait to shoot this!

Did some shooting today (for the first time) and I’m seriously impressed! I wasn’t shooting very well myself but I still managed to get a .55” 5 shot group and (3 members of my family) managed a .8” 10 shot group at 50 yards. At 85 five yards I will admit that I did not shoot that well at all (also used a 3-9x scope), but I still got 4 shots in 1.6” and three made it in .55”. All shots were taken off a bench with front and rear bags and 15g JSB pellets were used. Tomorrow I’ll get to testing more pellets.
