Budget (YH Like) Compressor Tips Compilation and experiences

I was pretty much sold on the Omega Trail Charger but the lack of any "real" reviews gave me pause. While waiting for reviews (AEAC has the Trail Charger), I looked again at the Yong Heng hardback models and the Tuxing models. Most of the people that have them seem to like them and most of the reported problems seem to stem from overworking / maintenance issues (no offense meant to anyone whose unit crapped out). The Tuxing is the better design for heat control and rebuild whereas the YH hardback has a better handle on removing moisture and more parts availability. The four most common complaints I have read about are piston head cracking (first stage), relay burning up (autostop versions), pressure gauge breaking and difficulty in replacing second stage piston seals (YH units - Tuxing uses split rings). The compressor that Edosan has shared seems to be a cross between the Yong Heng and the Tuxing using the better parts of both designs while adding in a better pressure gauge and readout to boot. I am adding this one to my list for concideration.

I have seen some videos on the OTCh and looks pretty good!

After a lot of deliberation I ordered the Omega Trail Charger. Ease of use and longevity were what tipped the scales in favor of the Omega. I decided that more time spent shooting and tuning my air guns was what I was getting a compressor for. My Omega should be here next week but the filter I ordered for it will take a bit longer.

Is a good choice. It has nice features for 800

For the price i prefer to have 2, 1 smaller 12v portable (spark) and the yellow, so I have a back up if one fails.

As you all know, the 2nd-stage piston of Yong Heng has got closed piston rings and I have been wondering how they can be put on. I asked the customer service people of Yong Heng today and they send me this picture and video showing how they do it in the factory. Hope you find it useful .

I am located in Hong Kong and I have to say the support from Yong Heng at this side of the pond is super. Recently I torn the gasket between the first-stage cylinder and the crank case when taking the compressor apart and I asked Yong Heng whether I can buy a replacement. They sent me two pieces free of charge ! I have to pay for the shipping of course, costs less than 2 bucks and expect to arrive in 2 days

My yellow wonder still working good, and after like 10 fills and an oil change Definitely the air doesn't stink like in the yh. So far is ok.

I use the same filter, so probably better build. Donno for sure, when I purge does stink.

Just wondering how you guys deal with the accumulation of lime scale inside the water chamber surrounding the second stage cylinder. I guess it will degrade the effectiveness of cooling if left unattended

I haven't opened mine yet so I don't know it's condition. But I chose to use a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water with my closed loop system. And one of the deciding factors for me was just that, scale and or corrosion. Good quality antifreeze provides protection from both.

I believe if just distilled water is used it should eliminate any scale buildup, which as you point out will likely lower cooling efficiency.

Sounds like what you're seeing is something like what one sees in a teapot that is used frequently to boil water.

Agreed, destilled water, rodi water will do the trick. Also slightly acidic water (will remove kh carbonate in the water and and build up)

My YH got a check valve between hp piston and gauge. if i open then connected tank, the pressure goes up and i always thought that the piston is under pressure too but i was wrong you have to remove the outlet pipe and the check valve falls out - if its build in.

i bought a better pump and changed the weak hoses for a higher waterflow.

Is my understanding that the pump included have enough flow, more flow will not improve the cooling process.

True more flow is not needed,mine flows more than needed.That why cars have thermostats to keep the coolant in place long enough to absorb heat.Remove the thermostat and during the summers down south you will be pulling over to let the engine cool off in stop and go traffic

After 9 months or so, I can say the yellow one is much better than YH. Love it



– temperature stays in the 45c range, you do not get burned

– digital panel, you can set whatever pressure up to 300b

– better construction

– moisture separator really works

– air stinks much less (I use also filters)

– it is a bit less noisier

9 month now, cero issues but a busted oring. Is used for top off 6.8l and 9L scbas. Means about 30 min each time

happy to help, there are too many crappy compressors out there, but some of them are really good! im 2 years I have spent like US$600, and for my use is great, I have friends spending US$6.000 in 2 years (with "great" branded compressors) and those are NOT WORKING now!

My budget YH is running well. I changed the oil after every other tank fill, to put a quart of oil through the block already. It gets cleaner and cleaner from wear particles. Changing the oil often is cheap insurance.
