You can always cut the legs shorter or use a taller chair. Once you are committed to a height you are stuck with it unless you want to go lower.

What's your plans to build a table? I had some old planks from a water bed laying around. I bought a carpenter's horse with adjustable legs so that I wouldn't be stuck with one height. It's also easy to adjust for uneven ground. The legs fold into the housing for portability.

I have 4 foot slab of a solid core door for the top, and will use 1 inch steel pipe screwed into 3 stanchions on the underside. Adjustable height is not necessary, as it's for my back yard only. I will be using the same seat as I take to the gunrange, hence the question about table height and universality.

Thanks, Strever! That's very similar to my bench project, but mine will be a bit lighter in the leg department. BTW, I remember seeing this bench years ago on a varmint shooting forum.

Cut off the legs to 26 inches today and shot this group with my TX-200 @25 before losing the light...



I paid more than double ($39) for the grinder than for the whole bench!
