Building backyard BR Range

Another club member and i started on making a 8 bench range 25m, 50m, 75 yd and 100yd. We made a form and have be mixing and pouring concrete for the tops, used molding in the form to make a nice bevel edged top. We have 2 made since friday, im very please with results so far. They are rock solid and a pleasure to shoot off of. Hope to start having matches by summers end.
Ill keep posting as the range comes together.




 
"Goodtogo"Ken when I make one of my wooden benches I drill a 1 7/8 hole in it for a inexpensive deck umbrella. I wonder if putting a wooden dowel to drill out later(or a steel sleeve to leave) would give you shade or are you going to put a cover over those?

I actually thought of that! But then i didnt want the wind to move the umbrella and vibrate into the reticle. Benchrest you see every movement if there is any. Amazon sells 10'x20' canvas car port coverings. Less than 100$ a piece, figured that'll do the trick and its removable.

"Willie14228"That is cool, If you want a glass smooth top use a sheet of thin Plexiglas in the base. We have done that for concrete table top forms. They make a light weight concrete for use in forms dry weight is about 50 pounds less per cubit foot

I used 1/4" finished plywood, couple coats of polyurethane to repel the water from the concrete.
after the top is out if the form i used and vibrating sander with scotch pad with water and it polishes them smooth. Thinking of epoxy painting or staining the tops. I seen the light weight mixes, but i wanted the weight, the leg blocks are not glued together so the weight is what makes it rock solid.

Yeah, the 2.5 inches of concrete will do the trick. That's what I have on top of my two benches. Rock solid!
The only down side to having such a stable bench is that it invites a bad habit I can get into of leaning my trigger elbow on the table. With such solid benches, the heart beat doesn't get noticed, but, at least for me, having my elbow on the table gives me not so good results.
