Tuning Bulldog not filling - Air leaking out of barrel

I broke my bulldog 357 down to install a depinger in the air tube and after reassembly, I will not fill. When i run the compressor for a minute and turn it off, you can hear and feel air coming out of the end of the barrel. One thing to note. When I degassed the gun and left the little screw open, as it was degassing slowly, at one moment a loud burst of air popped out the end of the barrel. Scared the crap out of me. I suspect that 'pop' was something going wrong is is the culprit.

What do you think it is? How can I fix it?

Also, if the hammer is no cocked, it will discharge through the barrel when degassing. This is normal because the hammer spring will push the valve forward. Just make sure the barrel is clear, or the hammer is cocked before degas.
