N/A Bullpup Vs. Pistol

Bullpup Vs. Pistol.

When I saw my first bullpup (picture online, probably an Edgun or KalibrGun can't remember) I immediately had an 'ah-ha', why-didn't-I-think-of-that moment.
The compactness, the carry handle... everything about moving the action back into the butt of the gun made perfect sense to me.

I instantly fell out of love with my .22 Marauder and springers, sold them and bought a gen 1 Wildcat, then a .25 Vulcan, eventually a Taipan and sold all the rest.
Been living happily ever after since then. Basking the the sweet bullpup goodness that only Taipan can provide IMHO.

I get that some don't 'get' bullpups.
What I don't 'get' are pistols.

These days, whenever I see a picture of a conventional PCP rifle I think 'what a waste of space'. For the same price, the barrel could have been longer.
The air tube could have been longer. The CG could have been moved back creating perfect balance and so on.

Conventional PCP rifles all look like pistols to me now and the area between the action and the butt pad wasted space.
Plus the unnecessary length!
I think it's one of those things where once you see it, you can't un-see it.

Anyone else or am I outa my PCP-lovin' mind? 😄

Here are just two examples:

Depends on the application. May EdGun R5M in 25 is a HAMMER out to 100 yards! For a truck gun it is fantastic. I wouldn't consider trying this with my Paradigm. There just isn't any room to move a full length rifle.

If shooting from a fixed position I would consider the. Paradigm or the HM1000x.

Each rifle has its place and dedicated use

While I love Bullpup's, especially Taipan, most of my hunting is opportunistic such as while fishing or hiking, or in legal area's that a little discretion is requested per owners, so I began using PCP pistols as a much packable option.

Huben GK1 is an unbelievable platform due to the amount of power and the build quality.

Each and every time I shoot it I find myself in a pure airgun shooting bliss, the only other gun I have that takes me there is my Taipan.

Back when I was shooting AR-15 and HK-91’s most of the time a bull pup held no attraction for me at all. Same thing when I was shooting competitively with what amounted to a sniper rifle. Nowadays though an air rifle in that configuration appeals. Light, easily balanced and I could put it under the seat of my truck. I may get serious about this.

Own both, shoot both, then have an informed opinion. I have a ton of bullpups with no wasted space. But that no wasted space comes at a cost. Put a scope on that Taipan in your picture and compare how high it towers over the bore compared to the Daystate and Evol.

I have owned both. Maybe you didn't read my OP?

Scope height? Is that supposed to be some kind of an issue?
I've never once blamed a miss on scope height. I mean that thought has never even entered my mind.

Oh wait, maybe you're talking about ergonomics?
No ergo problems on my end. My Taipans feel like they were custom fitted for me. Pure bliss

Comparing pistols to Bullpups, but they are not similar to me. A pistol is way more convenient. And a full-size rifle is way better to me. So for me it is a nice rifle and a great pistols. I should mention I shoot left-handed, also many people put stocks on pistols so there:rolleyes: you go I great pistol with a stock beats out a Bullpup, will maybe:unsure:

I feel Bullpups are an ideal solution to getting the barrel length that PCPs require. I love the easy handling of my Dreampup. Powder burners are a completely different story. I have zero interest in a 308 going off a quarter inch from my cheek.

Well put (y)

PBs are totally different I agree! But PCP+bullpup = match made in heaven

I like both for what they are. After owning only short carbines for a couple years though I am back to bullpups. They are great for what they accomplish in a small package.

That's a good way to put it (y)

I should have mentioned owning a BSA Hornet as well as the Marauder. My apologies (y)

Matt, whilst I share your enthusiasm for max barrel efficiency versus OTL . You can’t beget the traditional fan base. For one, they have zero issues with hammer ping! Now I’m a fan of the bullpup and semi design- see epic 2! These folks have a legit point.

That's one of the things I love about my de-tuned (24fpe) .22 Shorty. Zero ping!
So quiet it almost sounds like it's broken

I hear you - that forward breach is really a design for firearms with so much more power available. I find the pups to be an attractive design. I have an Empire XS in .22 which is a nice gun as far as i can tell.

I love my .25 Veteran Compact. But if I had unlimited funds, I'd sure like to try out one of those Huben GK1 pistols with a folding stock.
i've got a GK one, and the past couple weeks I've been thinking if I had unlimited funds I'd get a .25 veteran lol

My .22 Standard is such a pleasant, quiet gun to shoot. I can’t even imagine what a reduced power one would be like. You probably feel like you’re dry firing with no air in the gun. It has to be amazing because mine is set at 900fps and it feels like I’m shooting a sub 12. As far as scope height goes, a bullpup will have you become very conscious of cant and hold overs. If you love em, you adapt.

Bullpups have their advantages, but i am not totally sold on the project.
As i have a BP ( maverick ) and 2 traditional ( Cyclone and Two ) TBH i think i would like a pistol

I just fear a pistol might not satisfy my long range tendencies that made me sell my Vulcan 3, maybe CUZ a pistol are of course something else and my PCP knowledge also say " you will not get that kind of power or range in a pistol "

Working hard mentally to halt the airgun hobby, that is limit it to what i got, there is no doubt that every chance i get i am out the door and 1000 or so sluge poorer when i get home.
Also the Two are brand new, so really i have plenty to do tweaking / dialing it in, and then see if i can bring it VS the big brand boys.
